Job Summary

The Staff Firmware Engineer calls for an experienced, knowledgeable, and talented engineer to lead the development of firmware components for the Engineering organization. As a Staff Firmware Engineer, you will have an opportunity to lead and collaborate with other engineers to design, plan, develop, and maintain Embedded firmware components for the Firmware Engineering team. Experienced and high contributing engineer capable of handling complicated R&D hardware, firmware, software, and complete solutions projects as part of a cross-functional team. Collaborates with Product Management, Project management and other R&D teams in design, development, and validation of complete Smart Grid solutions. Collaborates with SMEs and business partners on component and system design.   


Key Responsibilities:


   Designs, develops, documents, and tests firmware for Linux based network devices.
   Contributes to the development of product design specifications including functional requirements, use cases, detailed design, interface, and test plans.
   Contributes to design verification testing processes and procedures.
   Proficient in component and/or solution design, development, documentation, and validation. 
   Proficient in area-specific continuous improvement initiatives 
   Contribute to innovative technology and solutions development and/or validation
   Assists with planning and support of field installations of Alpha and Beta phase.
   Contributes to design and code reviews.
   Contributes to product and system-level test efforts.
   Designs to industry standard interfaces where required.
   Lead in component and/or solution design, development, documentation, and validation. 
   Work on agile development teams, collaborating with multiple cross-discipline architecture teams to develop hardware and software components as part of L+G Smart Grid solutions. 
   Participates in recruitment, development and mentoring of junior engineers. 
   Lead functional area-specific continuous improvement initiatives. 
   Lead in innovative technology and solutions development and/or validation

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


   Experience with embedded Linux, configuration, and command-line system utilities. 
   Knowledge and experience with Git, Gerrit, Jenkins, Buildroot or similar toolchain in a Linux command-line development environment.
   Knowledge and hands-on experience with Linux drivers, kernel modules, device tree, and methods to load, configure, and determine status of them. 
   Strong familiarity with bootloaders (uboot)
   Experience with the GNU Debugger.
   Hands on experience with a Linux command-line development environment. 
   Proficiency with relevant development and/or validation methodologies.
   Deep knowledge of AMI and Smart Grid Systems and Solutions.
   Demonstrates creativity and ingenuity in applying engineering principles and practices.
   Ability to draw solutions from a wider range of experience.
   Ability to read and interpret technical documents, procedure manuals, schematics, data books, handbooks, etc.
   Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
   Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
   Ability to proficiently utilize standard computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processors, basic. 
   Expert status with C, C++, Embedded FW, good programming skills.

Education and Experience:


   B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related degree required. 
   Extensive Embedded Linux Firmware development experience (7-10 years).

Pay is in the range of $98,122 - $142,088 per year. The position is eligible for a 401(k) match and consideration for an annual bonus. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, and certifications or other professional licenses held.
