It supports the development of the Linux operating system and a wide range of open source initiatives by providing resources, events, training, and certification programs. The foundation also brings together developers, companies, and users to collaborate on open source technologies that drive innovation across industries. Its projects include Kubernetes, Node.js, Hyperledger, and many others that are critical to modern computing.

What types of collaborative projects or open-source initiatives might I contribute to as a team member at the Linux Foundation?

As a team member at the Linux Foundation, you will likely collaborate on high-impact open-source projects ranging from operating system development to cloud infrastructure, networking, and security initiatives. The work environment emphasizes cross-functional teamwork, where you may interact with developers, project managers, and global community contributors. Participation in industry-leading projects such as Kubernetes, Hyperledger, or the Linux kernel is common, offering opportunities to learn best practices and contribute to widely-used technologies. This collaborative culture fosters both personal growth and advancement in open-source leadership roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Linux System Administrator, and why are they important?

Job description

Our client is a pioneering data company specializing in low latency APIs that deliver high speed options and stocks data, empowering users with real-time, actionable information for dynamic financial markets. They are looking for a hands-on Infrastructure Engineer to join on a full time basis, owning the physical and logical foundation of their data center operations, from racking and cabling bare-metal nodes to designing the network fabric supporting their market data pipelines.
This role is not cloud-only, you'll get your hands dirty in the data center while also owning the stack that keeps the fleet consistent and scalable. Their platform handles billions of database requests daily on some of the most intricate financial data in the industry, and the team takes engineering seriously. This is a great fit for someone who wants real ownership and autonomy on a small, high trust team, with direct exposure to the fintech and market data space and a clear opportunity to shape how the infrastructure evolves.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience managing physical data center infrastructure
  • Proficiency with enterprise networking: Layer 2/3 switching, VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF or BGP a plus), and firewall rule management
  • Strong Linux systems administration skills (Ubuntu preferred): package management, systemd, storage, and the networking stack
  • Demonstrated experience with RAID configurations (RAID 1/5/6/10) and storage best practices
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible strongly preferred)
  • Familiarity with Netbox or equivalent IPAM/DCIM tooling
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced startup environment with a high degree of ownership and autonomy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - you can document what you build
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience with server provisioning pipelines (PXE boot, cloud-init, Cobbler, or Foreman)
  • Experience with monitoring and observability stacks: New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar
  • Familiarity with time-series or low-latency data infrastructure relevant to market data workloads
  • Experience with out-of-band management tools: iDRAC, iLO, or IPMI
  • Scripting proficiency in Python or Bash for automation and operational tooling
  • Exposure to colocation or carrier-neutral data center environments
  • Experience with container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) in a bare-metal context
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and flow analysis tools (SNMP, NetFlow, sFlow, Grafana Network)
  • Knowledge of security frameworks (CIS Benchmarks, NIST) and hardening practices
