Linux Administrator
Location: Chicago, Illinois (Onsite)
Salary: 90k - 110k
Role Overview
This role is responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of environments with servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux and VMware ESXi on HPE hardware and in the Azure Cloud. The servers primarily host Oracle applications, Oracle databases, and various other third-party and supporting applications across multiple company locations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Participate as a team member to ensure system infrastructure and operating systems are available to support applications.
  • Analyze, evaluate, plan, implement, configure, patch, upgrade, and tune software and hardware in various environments.
  • Automate manual processes such as patching, updates, server builds, and monitoring.
  • Document procedures and update standards for new or modified systems.
  • Provide technical support and asset management within a datacenter environment.
  • Follow Change Management policies and Incident resolution timelines.
  • Respond to system alerts and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for production support.
  • Review security notifications from HPE, Red Hat, and VMware and deploy updates as needed.
  • Gather, evaluate, and measure data on performance and capacity, reporting on key metrics.
  • Proactively identify problems and provide solutions to management.
  • Design solutions for technical problems and implement new system or infrastructure changes.
  • Prepare for disaster recovery and ensure backups are completed and tested.
  • Troubleshoot software and hardware failures and work with vendors for support.

Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience managing and maintaining Red Hat Linux and VMware environments is necessary. 2-5 years of experience in a hybrid enterprise infrastructure (On-Prem & Cloud) is also required.
Technical Skills:
  • Experience with upgrading and patching using Red Hat Satellite is required.
  • Proficiency in scripting to create, modify, and execute automated system functions is required.
  • Experience with backup, recovery, and data protection utilities such as Avamar or Veeam is required.
  • Familiarity with HPE ProLiant and Synergy server infrastructure is required.
  • A solid understanding of Linux OS protocols and services, including NFS, TCP/IP, DNS, and HTTP(s), is required.
  • Proficiency in automation tools, CI/CD processes, configuration, and scripting languages is required.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker or Kubernetes is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Ansible Automation Platform is a plus.
  • Experience with storage provisioning and managing SAN architecture, particularly HPE Alletra Storage Array Administration, is a plus.
  • Experience with Oracle database and application support is a plus.
