Job description

Associate DevOps SRE - Warehouse Automation

Position Summary

OPEX Corporation is currently looking for an Associate DevOps Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to support, develop, and improve the DevOps systems used by the Warehouse Automation Division. This role will help design, implement and support the CI/CD toolchain, infrastructure, monitoring, automation, and production support processes for innovative robotic warehouse automation products including Infinity, Cortex, SureSort, PerfectPick, and RPM.

The Associate DevOps SRE will work closely with senior DevOps engineers, SREs, software engineering teams, systems engineering, and IT to help keep development and delivery platforms reliable, secure, observable, and efficient. The ideal candidate is an engineer with a strong technical foundation who wants to grow in DevOps, site reliability engineering, Linux/Windows systems administration, automation, CI/CD, and production operations.

The toolchain may include Plastic SCM, Jenkins, Artifactory, Octopus, Docker, VMware/Proxmox/HyperV, CheckMK, Jira, Confluence, Dependency Track, PowerShell, bash,  Linux, Windows, etc 

Responsibilities

This role requires a motivated, hands-on engineer who is eager to learn, troubleshoot, automate, and support production-oriented engineering systems. This person will be expected to:

  • Support the administration, monitoring, maintenance and improvement of DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure systems.
  • Assist with Linux and Windows server administration, including user management, patching, service troubleshooting, and routine system maintenance.
  • Design, develop, maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines used to build, test, package, and deploy software for warehouse automation products.
  • Assist colleagues with best practices in Jenkins, Artifactory, Octopus, Plastic SCM, Jira, Confluence, Docker, and related development infrastructure tools.
  • Design, develop, maintain and improve scripts to automate repeatable operational tasks, reduce manual work, and improve consistency.
  • Help troubleshoot build failures, pipeline issues, deployment problems, server issues, and toolchain outages.
  • Monitor system health, service availability, disk usage, resource utilization, and application or toolchain performance.
  • Perform incident response, triage, root cause analysis, and post-incident improvement activities.
  • Design, develop, maintain and improve monitoring for all systems.
  • Design, develop, maintain and improve backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes for critical DevOps and infrastructure systems.
  • Follow secure operational practices for access control, secrets management, dependency scanning, and software delivery.
  • Work with senior team members to improve reliability, scalability, maintainability, and security of DevOps platforms.
  • Support development teams by helping resolve environment, build, deployment, and toolchain issues.
  • Create and improve documentation for various processes, troubleshooting guides, procedures, and system configurations with not only the steps taken, but also the purpose, prerequisites, decision points, validation steps, rollback procedures, and escalation paths. 
  • Participate in Agile development processes and support a culture of continuous learning and continuous improvement.
  • Manage multiple tasks and priorities, which may change due to requests or requirements, while clearly communicating tasks, priority, status, risks and blockers effectively and understandably.
  • Take ownership of all tasks, requests, incidents, environments, pipelines, infrastructure, tools, and user management while knowing when to ask for help, escalate, or involve senior team members.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Associate-level experience in DevOps, SRE, systems administration, software engineering, IT operations, or a related technical role. (professional, academic and/or personal) 
  • Working knowledge of Linux / UNIX-based systems.
  • Familiarity with Windows Servers
  • Basic understanding of CI/CD concepts and software delivery pipelines.
  • Experience or familiarity with one or more CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps, or similar.
  • Experience with scripting / automating with Bash, PowerShell, Python, Groovy, batch scripting, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with source control systems such as Git, Plastic SCM, SVN, Perforce, or similar.
  • Basic understanding of containers, especially Docker or similar container technologies.
  • Familiarity with build tools, package management, or artifact repositories such as Artifactory, Nexus, MSBuild, Gradle, Make, npm, or similar.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills across operating systems, networks, applications, logs, and build/deployment systems.
  • Ability to learn new tools quickly and work through ambiguous technical problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to articulate the problem(s) and the solution(s) available for the team 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with software engineering, IT, QA, systems engineering, and product teams.
  • Ability to take initiative on a solution and conduct a review with the rest of the team, utilizing feedback and critique to improve the proposed solution.
  • Able to demonstrate strong coding practices while considering future maintainers when writing code, scripts, documentation, and configuration changes.
  • Maintains awareness of active work, incidents, requests, and priorities across multiple communication channels.
  • Able to properly prepare for team meetings and communicate priorities effectively and accurately
  • Demonstrate a solution-oriented mindset by identifying problems, researching possible causes, and recommending practical paths forward.
  • Perform critical self-review of work before handoff, review, or deployment, including checking for correctness, maintainability, security, reliability, and operational impact. 

Preferred Skills & Experience

Experience with any of the following is preferred but not required:

  • Jenkins administration or pipeline troubleshooting.
  • JFrog Artifactory or Nexus administration.
  • Octopus Deploy or similar release/deployment tooling.
  • Plastic SCM administration or support.
  • Jira and Confluence administration or usage.
  • Docker container build, deployment, or troubleshooting experience.
  • VMware, ESXi, Proxmox or other virtualization platforms.
  • CheckMK, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Nagios, Zabbix, or similar monitoring tools.
  • Logging platforms such as ELK Stack, OpenSearch, Splunk, Loki or similar.
  • Security scanning tools such as SonarQube, Dependency Track, Snyk, Trivy or similar.
  • Basic network administration concepts including DNS, TCP/IP, TLS, firewalls, load balancers, routing, and network storage.
  • Network Attached Storage administration or troubleshooting.
  • Infrastructure as Code or configuration management tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or similar.
  • Cloud exposure, especially Azure, AWS, or private cloud environments.
  • C, C++, Java, Go, Node.js, or other software development experience.
  • Warehouse automation, robotics, manufacturing, industrial automation, or hardware/software integration experience.

SRE & Reliability Expectations

The Associate DevOps SRE should be interested in learning and applying reliability engineering practices, including:

  • Monitoring service health and infrastructure availability.
  • Responding to alerts and helping troubleshoot incidents.
  • Understanding customer and engineering impact during outages or degraded service.
  • Tracking reliability signals such as availability, latency, error rates, throughput, saturation, resource usage, and failed deployments.
  • Supporting root cause analysis and post-incident reviews.
  • Improving runbooks, dashboards, alerts, and automation based on production issues.
  • Reducing toil by automating repetitive operational tasks.
  • Learning how SLIs, SLOs, SLAs, and error budgets apply to production systems.
  • Helping ensure systems are maintained with minimal avoidable downtime.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
  • 0-3 years of professional experience in DevOps, SRE, systems administration, software development, infrastructure, or IT operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical problems and learn from failures.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate technical, operational, compliance, and process-related risks, including system failure points, resource contention, dependency issues, regulatory impacts, workflow bottlenecks, and recurring organizational pain points, and recommend proactive mitigations before they impact reliability, delivery, security, or business operations.
  • Strong interest in automation, reliability, infrastructure, and software delivery.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative engineering environment.
  • Ability to support occasional off-hours maintenance, deployments, or emergency support when needed.
  • Ability to travel to customer or company locations when necessary.

Physical / Work Environment

  • Employee may work in an office, lab, production, or engineering environment.
