Location: Houston, TX (Need to go to office for important meetings)
Duration: Full time/ Direct Hire
Summary:
The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the operations of servers, network, and container application stacks. They will serve as the main technical escalation point of the Systems Administration team and provide technical mentoring to Systems Administrators. The Senior Systems Administrator will work with reviewing and planning the installing, configuring, deploying, supporting and decommissioning IT infrastructure. The role has a major component of writing and maintaining custom scripts for integration between internal and external. System Administrators commonly install and configure new applications that are deployed on servers.
Senior Systems Administrators are responsible for creation and maintenance of our server and container environments that integrate with internal and external applications hosted in a hybrid cloud.
Experience:
  • At least 3, prefered 5, years of professional experience as a Systems Administrator
  • At least 1 years of professional experience actively troubleshooting any version of Linux/Unix in a production environment.
  • At least 1 years of experience with Windows and Active Directory.
  • Preferred, 1 years of experience with container creation and management
  • Preferred, 1 years of experience with cloud management or migration.

Certifications
  • Red Hat Certifications for systems administration including RHCSA, RHCE, and RHCA are desired but not required.
  • Oracle Certification for Database Administration is desired but not required.
  • SaltStack Enterprise Administration I and SaltStack Enterprise Administration II are desired but not required.
  • Docker Certified Associate is desired but not required.
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator is desired but not required.
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or above is desired but not required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • An in-depth understanding of Linux and Windows system administration is required.
  • An in-depth understanding and demonstrated skill using a Bourne-compatible shell is required.
  • An in-depth understanding and demonstrated skill using one of the following languages is required: Powershell, PHP, Python, or Perl.
  • A solid understanding and knowledge of centralized configuration management of Linux systems using Salt, Chef, Puppet or similar is required.
  • A working knowledge of log aggregation and collection technologies such as Rsyslog, Logstash, or Splunk is required.
  • Strong oral and written technical communication skills are required.

Essential Functions:
Business Impact Projects and New Technologies
  • Following the business strategy and mission serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for projects to support growth and our customers
  • Identify and introduce projects that support other business units

Research and implement new technology
  • As directed or approved by Infrastructure Services Manager, identify potential solutions to company objectives using new or existing tools.
  • Implement new technologies or integrations to achieve business objectives as directed by Infrastructure Services Manager.

System Administration
  • Maintain, configure, and secure production Linux and Windows servers including patching, installing new packages/applications, and provisioning new servers.
  • Maintain and configure development environments in support of software developers

Troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Serve as an escalation point for issues and incidents
  • Assist in troubleshooting application issues
  • Maintain automated monitoring systems
  • Respond to and resolve issues escalated by automated monitoring system
  • Determine Root Cause to produce solutions to issues

Centralized Management
  • Use centralized management tools to ensure compliance with policy across server environments.
  • Use automation tools to allow patches and updates to be applied across server environments in batches.
  • Ensure automated and manual patching of systems

Mentor other Systems Administrators
  • Serve as mentor and skill leader for other Administrators

Mysql Server Administration
  • Maintain and oversee proper functioning of mysql servers.
