Job description

Corvid Technologies is looking to add an experienced Systems Engineer for the X-Band Transportable Radar (XTR) to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). This system is based on-board the Pacific Tracker currently berthed in Portland, OR. This engineer will join our growing team that provides range support services for ballistic and hypersonic test missions for DoD and NASA. We cover mission planning, networks and systems engineering, telemetry, radar tracking and imaging, data and voice communications, logistics, and cybersecurity aspects of missile testing at ranges all over the world.
The engineer in this position will operate and maintain the XTR-1 radar system and subsystems to meet mission requirements. Candidate will work with various customer organizations to understand mission requirements and the XTR-1 system's impact to the mission. As the primary caretaker of the radar system, candidate will be with the system during all test events and work on-board the Pacific Tracker while the ship is in port. Trip durations are dependent on customer test mission, that are typically scheduled well in advance but subject to modifications on short notice. The standard trips last between 2 and 4 weeks. Total trips per year are also dependent on customer schedules, and average between 4 and 8.
Responsibilities will include:
  • Operate and maintain ship-borne multi-band radar system and subsystems; including high-powered transmitters, receivers, modulators, timing and control systems, cooling systems, antenna hardware and associated interconnects
  • Perform daily calibrations and systems testing ensuring the radar remains mission capable
  • Conduct System Administrator responsibilities with Linux RHEL OS, CISCO iOS, Windows, and associated computer applications
  • Develop system documentation to include creating standard operating procedures, network drawings and electrical schematics
  • Maintain and update systems and patches to comply with Risk Management Framework (RMF) Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) requirements
  • Work with engineers to implement design changes and test new solutions
  • Perform equipment installs, configuration updates, and troubleshooting actions
Requirements:
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and maintain) a Secret Clearance
  • Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related STEM discipline and at least 5 years of relevant experience (more experience may substitute for degree)
  • Experience maintaining a high-powered radar system
  • Candidate will need experience performing network, Windows, and/or Linux administration in an enclave or enterprise environment (Preferred candidate will have DoD Directive 8570.01 IAT Level II certification)
  • The ability to effectively perform maintenance, repairs and replacement of complex mechanical systems, gear boxes, brake systems and/or electric motors/generators is required (will need the ability to lift 50lb and work at heights in-port and at sea)
  • Proficiency with basic test equipment (Oscilliscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, Power Meters, etc.) will be needed to maintain the systems
  • Experience with RSLinx, RSLogix, RSView, MatLab, and Allen-Bradley hardware/software is required
  • Candidate should demonstrate strong communication skills, specifically as it relates to presenting technical topics to a variety of stakeholders (with varying degrees of technical depth in the radar system)
