This is a hybrid position based out of our Johnston, IA office.

What we’re looking for:


SHAZAM is looking for a UNIX Technology Administrator to join our team. In this position, you’ll handle essential tasks such as creating and managing system IDs, resetting passwords, and configuring user groups. You will monitor system alerts, respond promptly to issues, and ensure daily backups are implemented and optimized. Additionally, you’ll assist in building and patching Red Hat and AIX servers using VMware or other virtualization technologies. This role also offers opportunities to contribute to projects alongside experienced UNIX Technology professionals, providing hands-on experience and growth in a dynamic environment.

What you'll do:

  • Build and patch simple Red Hat Operating System using virtualization software such as VMware.
  • Work with enterprise level security software to create, delete and modify user IDs for all operating systems as well resetting passwords as needed/ requested.
  • Use enterprise level backup software to ensure proper data is backed up as requested, monitor backups daily and restore files/ data as requested.
  • Monitor system utilization including disk space, memory usage, node utilization and all components that could reduce user efficiency in applications. Elevate concerns to more senior staff members.
  • Participate in disaster recovery testing, build working knowledge of the SHAZAM DR architecture.
  • Assist computer operators and/or systems programmers in recovery from system error/malfunction conditions.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an information technology field or 1 years’ experience as a UNIX/Linux Administrator.
  • Experience with middleware is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
