Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The role of the Grader lineman on the Grader at Rose Acre Farms is a position that requires concentration on primarily one task, namely making sure that all cases that are processed through the Grader are stacked properly for transport to the cooler. In addition, this person will also be in charge of bringing up the correct cartons from the carton room for that day's run, and bringing up more cartons for the day as needed. Finally, this position is in charge on monitoring the tape machine in the Grader and ensuring adequate maintenance is performed on it to keep it in working order. All duties are to be performed in an exemplary and professional manner.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for setting up case stacking line each morning (i.e. set skids in their proper places, fill partial skids, acquire all other essential materials for entire day's production run.)
  • Responsible for stacking all processed cases onto the appropriate skids after they come off the line.
  • Responsible for situating inedible barrels in their proper place in the Grader.
  • Responsible for monitoring all cases after they are processed through the Grader by the packer to ensure that they are sealed and labeled properly with adequate identification materials.
  • Responsible for bringing up cartons from the carton room for the day's Grader run, and bringing up additional cartons to the Grader throughout the day as needed.
  • Responsible for maintenance on the tape machine and checking to make sure that it is sealing the case boxes properly throughout the day.
  • Responsible for pulling full skids of eggs to the cooler as they are filled during that shift's run.
  • Responsible for keeping an accurate inventory of rejects.
  • Responsible for making sure that all trash and cardboard is properly baled and disposed of at the end of each shift.
  • Responsible for assisting packers or candlers as directed by the Grader Manager.
  • Responsible for stacking and moving egg cases, racks or skids in the most efficient and safe manner possible to reduce loss.
  • Responsible for complying with all Rose Acre safety procedures and policies while working on the job.
  • Responsible for familiarizing self with Rose Acre Farms Biosecurity Program policies.
  • Responsible for familiarizing self with Rose Acre Good Manufacturing Practices Handbook.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • High school diploma is desired - previous grading or egg industry experience is helpful.
  • Some knowledge of egg production operations and the role the Grader plays in getting our finished product out efficiently.
  • Capable of working on a monotonous job for extended periods of time, and maintaining the discipline to not become distracted.
  • Capable of working long hours if needed to complete the processing.
  • Capable of working weekend shifts and maintaining a flexible schedule to help the Grader Manager should they need assistance on a particular day.
  • Possess excellent teamwork skills - as with many jobs this position requires a "team" attitude, and requires that all Grader workers work together to get eggs processed.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once - the ability to deal with stressful situations and still get the job complete.
  • Ability to treat co-workers and managers with respect and courtesy.
  • Ability to lift more than 40 lbs. continually throughout the day.
  • Ability to stand for the majority of the day and work in a physically demanding environment (temperature and humidity fluctuations, egg odor, etc.)
  • Must possess the ability to use hands in a repetitive manner, standing in one place for extended periods of time and lifting heavy items high in the air repetitively.
  • Possess the ability to monitor all cases that are coming off the line for being sealed and labeled properly.
  • Ability to operate Rose Acre machinery (skid loaders etc.) in a safe manner that ensures the safety of not only the operator but also all team member's.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must possess the ability to work in an agricultural environment, indoors, outdoors, office, warehouse, processing, and farm production areas each varying in temperature, and other environment specific atmospheres.
  • Must be willing and able to work past the scheduled leave time to complete the job, if needed.
  • Must possess the ability to work in an open office setting.
  • Must maintain professionalism with coworkers.
