Houston Metro Urology (HMU) is the largest urology group in the greater Houston area, offering comprehensive and compassionate care. Our Radiation Oncology team is committed to delivering high-quality treatment for patients using the latest technology in a supportive clinical environment.
Summary:
Houston Metro Urology is seeking an experienced Radiation Therapist. The Radiation Therapist is responsible for administering radiation treatments to patients as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. This role ensures the safe, accurate, and compassionate delivery of care while maintaining patient comfort and dignity. Our Radiation Therapists are crucial members of the radiation oncology team, ensuring that patients receive safe and effective radiation treatments while providing support and comfort throughout their treatment.
Key Responsibilities:
Treatment Delivery:
• Administering radiation treatments as prescribed by radiation oncologists, using machines like linear accelerators and other specialized equipment.
Patient Positioning and Immobilization
• Accurately positioning patients for treatment, using immobilization devices to ensure consistent and precise treatment delivery.
Monitoring and Observation:
• Closely monitoring patients during treatment for any reactions or side effects and documenting any unusual occurrences.
Record Keeping:
• Maintaining detailed records of treatment plans, doses, and patient responses.
Patient Education and Support:
• Explaining treatment procedures to patients, answering their questions, and providing emotional support throughout the treatment process.
Equipment Maintenance and Quality Assurance:
• Ensuring that radiation therapy equipment is in proper working order and performing quality control checks.
Collaboration with the Healthcare Team:
• Working closely with radiation oncologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
Radiation Safety:
• Adhering to strict safety protocols to protect themselves and the patients from unnecessary radiation exposure.
Schedule:
  • 4-10's and rotate week to week.
  • Monday to Friday

Physical Demands:
  • Requires high-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care assessment activities.
  • Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs, to stand for long periods, occasional overhead, and low reaching, and to exert force of up to 50 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs. frequently/or up to 10 lbs.

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program
  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification in Radiation Therapy
  • Current Texas Medical Board licensure as a Radiation Therapist
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist (clinical externship may be considered)
  • Strong technical skills with a focus on accuracy and patient safety
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience in an outpatient radiation oncology setting
  • Experience working with Varian linear accelerators and Eclipse treatment planning system
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR), preferably Aria
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Familiarity with urologic oncology diagnoses and treatments
Salary Description
$45 - $50/hour
