About the job Radiation Therapist
General Summary of Duties: Provide radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by a radiation oncologist according to established practices and standards. Duties may include reviewing prescription and diagnosis; acting as liaison with physician and supportive care personnel; preparing equipment, such as immobilization, treatment, and protection devices; and maintaining records, reports, and files
Essential Functions:

  • Provides patient orientation, procedure explanation, and pre and post diagnostic care to completion of test; performs complete diagnostic imaging tests inclusive of positioning patient, calibration of equipment and documentation of findings with the direction of the physician; assists patients with basic patient care needs in a clinic setting.
  • Provides emergency care, notifying appropriate personnel and ensures that patient safety is maintained
  • Discuss various treatment plans with the patient; developed in partnership with a clinical oncologists and physicians.
  • Establish the correct radiation dosage and location or area to treat.
  • Help patients to understand the potential side effects of radiation treatment and how to manage any associated side effects.
  • Safely provide the correct radiotherapy treatment to patients.
  • Operate the medical equipment used for radiotherapy.
  • Ensure that the medical equipment is regularly maintained and in excellent working order.
  • Maintain accurate records of a patients treatment regimen.
Experience:
Minimum: 1 - 2 years prior experience in a hospital/clinic setting as Radiation Therapist.
Open to New Grad, Exp preferred Varian Trilogy and IX
  • Proficiency with Varian linear accelerators is essential.
  • Knowledge of GE and Philips CT scanners is a plus.
  • Must be proficient in all types of radiation treatment plans and protocols.
Requirements:
  • Education: Completion of at least a two year approved School of Radiation Therapy
  • Experience: One year full time experience as a Radiation Therapist.
  • Licensure: Valid state radiology registration as required by state law
  • Certification: Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification
