What is a line service supervisor?

Line Service Supervisors are professionals in the aviation industry responsible for overseeing the ground crew that services aircraft at airports or fixed-base operations (FBOs). They ensure that fueling, towing, parking, cleaning, and other ground support operations are carried out safely and efficiently. These supervisors manage staff, coordinate daily operations, enforce safety protocols, and communicate with pilots and other airport personnel. Their role is critical in maintaining smooth and secure aircraft turnaround and ground handling services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a line service supervisor?

To thrive as a Line Service Supervisor, you need a solid understanding of aircraft ground handling, fueling procedures, safety standards, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with ground support equipment, fuel management systems, and safety certification such as OSHA or NATA Safety 1st are typically required. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help manage teams efficiently and ensure adherence to protocols. These skills and qualifications are crucial for maintaining flight safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance on the ramp.

Description
Are you an experienced aviation professional ready to take the next step into leadership?
Freeman Jet Center Waco is seeking a Line Service Shift Supervisor to lead daily ramp operations while delivering an elite level of safety, customer service, and operational excellence. This is more than a senior line technician position; you are the tactical leader responsible for owning the shift.
Every day you'll coordinate aircraft movements, prioritize fueling operations, supervise Line Service Technicians, synchronize operations with our Customer Service team, and ensure every customer receives the exceptional experience that defines Freeman Jet Center.
If you're looking for an opportunity to lead people, make operational decisions, and help build one of the premier FBOs in Central Texas, we'd like to meet you.
Requirements
Responsibilities and Duties
As the Line Service Shift Supervisor, you are entrusted with the safe and efficient execution of all line operations during your shift.
Responsibilities include:
  • Lead all ramp operations during your assigned shift.
  • Serve as the primary decision-maker for aircraft parking, fueling priorities, towing operations, and hangar positioning.
  • Assign daily operational tasks to Line Service Technicians while ensuring work is distributed safely and efficiently.
  • Coordinate continuously with Customer Service Representatives to maintain seamless communication between the front desk and ramp.
  • Provide direct oversight of all high-risk aircraft movements including towing and close-quarter parking.
  • Monitor aircraft arrivals and departures while maintaining safe ramp flow.
  • Conduct shift briefings and complete comprehensive turnover reports with the oncoming supervisor.
  • Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed to Freeman Jet Center standards.
  • Verify Ground Support Equipment (GSE), crew vehicles, and operational equipment are inspected and ready for service.
  • Monitor fuel inventory, fuel quality control procedures, and equipment readiness.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and customer-ready facility throughout each shift.
  • Monitor weather conditions and adjust operational safety procedures as conditions require.
  • Enforce FOD prevention, aircraft security, tie-down procedures, and ramp safety standards.
  • Coach and mentor Line Service Technicians while maintaining accountability to company standards.
  • Notify management immediately of incidents, equipment failures, fueling discrepancies, or significant customer concerns.

Leadership Expectations
The Line Service Shift Supervisor is expected to:
  • Lead with professionalism, composure, and accountability.
  • Maintain calm, solution-focused leadership during high-tempo operations.

  • Correct unsafe or unprofessional behavior immediately.
  • Foster teamwork between Line Service and Customer Service personnel.
  • Ensure every shift concludes with a complete operational handoff.

Success is measured by:

  • Ability to coach, mentor, and develop teammates
  • Commitment to operational excellence and safety
