Job description

We are looking for a Director, Electrical & Control Systems to join our team in Alpharetta, GA. As a Director, Electrical & Control Systems with QUIKRETE Heavy Construction Materials, you will provide technical leadership and corporate oversight for electrical power distribution, automation, and control systems supporting our cement manufacturing operations. This role partners with plant operations and corporate technical services to improve reliability, safety, operational performance, and continuous improvement initiatives across multiple facilities.

About the Role
Responsibilities:
  • Support the cement division in maintaining an injury-free workplace while promoting OSHA, MSHA, and company safety initiatives.
  • Provide corporate leadership and technical support for the design, specification, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of medium- and low-voltage electrical power distribution systems, including transformers, motors, generators, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, instrumentation, compressors, grounding systems, lightning protection, heat trace systems, and other equipment supporting cement production facilities.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and evaluate electrical power system studies, including short circuit, voltage drop, relay coordination, motor starting, load flow, harmonic, and arc flash studies using power system modeling software.
  • Lead the controls and automation scope for corporate capital projects while coordinating contractors, maintenance personnel, production teams, and project stakeholders throughout project execution.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize industrial control systems, field instrumentation, PLCs, industrial networking infrastructure, and automation standards.
  • Support turnkey electrical engineering projects from concept through commissioning while ensuring compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, electrical codes, and company standards.
  • Conduct field inspections and routine audits to verify installation quality, regulatory compliance, and adherence to engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with plant personnel, contractors, and corporate project teams to support new installations, plant expansions, and modernization projects.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and lower operating costs.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), equipment commissioning, and plant start-up activities as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies, engineering standards, and best practices for heavy industrial electrical systems.
  • Prepare technical reports, project updates, presentations, and engineering documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

About You
We Require:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering and supervisory experience in manufacturing, preferably within cement manufacturing, mining, aggregates, lime, or other heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong passion for industrial power distribution, motor controls, automation, and heavy industrial electrical systems.
  • Experience with 15kV, 5kV, and 480V industrial power distribution systems supporting rotary kilns, conveyors, compressors, pumps, fans, and similar process equipment.
  • Experience specifying, installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining motors, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, starters, lighting systems, conduit systems, cable schedules, and related electrical equipment.
  • Experience preparing project narratives, technical specifications, RFPs, and RFQs for electrical systems and motor control equipment.
  • Ability to develop and interpret electrical design documents including single-line diagrams, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, network diagrams, motor elementary drawings, equipment lists, I/O lists, conduit schedules, cable schedules, and electrical load calculations.
  • Strong understanding of industrial automation, instrumentation, PLC-based control systems, and industrial communication networks.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E standards.
  • Familiarity with GE Multilin, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), Siemens protective relays, or similar equipment is preferred.
  • Experience using SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, or similar power system analysis software is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across multiple departments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and priorities with minimal supervision.

We Prefer:
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to safely climb stairs, ladders, and industrial equipment, including work at heights up to 350 feet.
  • Ability to walk up to 200 yards over rough, uneven, wet, or slippery terrain.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, push, pull, twist, balance, and squat throughout the workday.
  • Ability to use required personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in industrial environments.
  • Ability to safely operate standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, printers, and copiers.
  • Sufficient visual acuity and hearing to recognize safety alarms, hazards, and warning indicators.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel by automobile and commercial airline.
  • Ability to travel overnight to manufacturing facilities as required.
Working conditions:
Must be able to safely work in heavy industrial manufacturing environments exposed to varying weather conditions, elevated noise levels up to 120 dBA, vibration, mechanical and electrical hazards, and airborne materials including cement, gypsum, clay, sand, dust, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, and fuels while following all applicable safety policies and PPE requirements.
