Job description

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and repair duties across YW facilities. This includes building repairs, drywall and painting, grounds care, snow removal, minor plumbing and electrical work, and supporting Facility Operators with mechanical systems. 

This position is a full-time permanent position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. This role participates in an on-call rotation and may require overtime.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Perform maintenance tasks including painting, drywall repairs, plumbing, electrical work, replacing baseboards, repairing or replacing flooring, cabinetry, doors, windows, outlet covers, and lighting fixtures
  • Conduct landscaping tasks and general grounds maintenance
  • Complete repairs of company machinery, equipment, and appliances
  • Complete unit repairs and turnover work after tenant move-out
  • Inspect and maintain common areas and exterior lighting; replace bulbs as needed
  • Support Facility Operators with maintenance of heating, cooling, and air-handling systems
  • Assist with mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, fans, and heating coils
  • Use of Building Management Systems (BMS) to log inquiries, repairs, and maintenance
  • Comply with authorities having jurisdiction (City of Calgary, ABSA) including documentation, inspections and required repairs
  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely, detailed, and accurate manner
  • Liaise with contractors, ensuring access, quality of work, and proper completion of repairs
  • Maintain parking areas, walkways, grounds, and patios year-round, including snow and ice removal
  • Perform lawn care using ride-on and push mowers, trimmers, and other equipment
  • Provide general custodial support (e.g., loading dock support, garbage removal, cleanup after repairs)
  • Provide occasional transportation of prepared meals and Cambros between YWCA Calgary locations as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • WHMIS and valid First Aid are required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role
  • Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License and have held that license for at least five (5) years
  • Requires ability to lift 50–100lbs, moving furniture, equipment, and materials

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Experience in trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and locksmithing
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities, particularly for plumbing and electrical systems
  • Experience with boilers, chillers, HVAC, and related systems
  • Ability to operate snow removal and lawn care machinery
  • Proficient using computers, mobile devices, apps, and email
  • Must be flexible with work hours, including possible evenings or weekends
  • Ability to work in varied environments (indoor/outdoor)
