Manager, Laboratory Services

Location: Onsite
Status: Full-Time, Exempt

About the Opportunity

Lighthouse Lab Services is partnering with a respected and mission-driven healthcare organization to identify an experienced Manager of Laboratory Services. This is a high-impact leadership role for a laboratory professional who is passionate about quality, operational excellence, and team development.

This position offers the opportunity to lead a multi-disciplinary laboratory team, influence strategic initiatives, and drive improvements that directly enhance patient care and service delivery.

Position Overview

The Manager of Laboratory Services will oversee the day-to-day operations of a clinical laboratory, ensuring the highest standards of quality, compliance, and efficiency. This individual will provide both technical leadership and operational oversight across multiple laboratory disciplines and service locations.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can balance clinical expertise, regulatory knowledge, staff leadership, and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership
  • Direct all clinical laboratory operations, including hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and phlebotomy.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards (CLIA, CAP, OSHA).
  • Establish and maintain quality assurance programs, safety protocols, and performance metrics.
Technical Oversight
  • Maintain technical proficiency and provide guidance across all testing areas.
  • Troubleshoot complex laboratory issues and ensure timely resolution of quality concerns.
  • Oversee validation, implementation, and optimization of new tests, instruments, and methodologies.
Systems & Workflow Management
  • Supervise and optimize laboratory information systems (LIS) and EMR integrations.
  • Lead point-of-care (POC) testing programs and manage send-out workflows across multiple locations.
  • Identify and implement workflow improvements to enhance efficiency and turnaround times.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory personnel.
  • Ensure staff competency, engagement, and appropriate scheduling coverage.
  • Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture focused on excellence.
Financial & Resource Management
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and perform cost analyses.
  • Partner with revenue cycle teams to support accurate billing and reimbursement.
  • Oversee inventory, procurement, vendor relationships, and service contracts.
Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
  • Conduct internal audits and maintain up-to-date policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to optimize operations and patient outcomes.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators and improvement efforts.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Partner with clinical and administrative leadership across the organization.
  • Participate in leadership, quality, and compliance meetings.
  • Present operational updates, metrics, and strategic initiatives to stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related scientific field
  • MT (ASCP) certification
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory laboratory role

Preferred:

  • Experience managing laboratory teams in a multi-site or ambulatory setting
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial management principles

Work Environment

  • Onsite laboratory setting
  • May require lifting up to 30 lbs
