Job description

Join BIC World, a community of brands dedicated to creating ingeniously simple and joyful products that have been part of hearts and homes for over 75 years. We are committed to growing our iconic and innovative brands by reimagining everyday essentials in new, sustainable, and responsible ways.
Our culture encourages a "roll up your sleeves and get the job done" mindset, ensuring self-starters, problem solvers, and innovative thinkers can truly thrive. At BIC World, you are empowered to take ownership of your career and use your unique perspective to make a meaningful, global impact on our mission.
As a Packaging Engineer Co-Op at BIC, you will gain hands-on experience building a strong technical foundation in consumer packaged goods packaging. Working under the mentorship of experienced Packaging Engineers, you will support the design, development, testing, and implementation of structural packaging solutions across BIC's portfolio. This role provides exposure to the full packaging lifecycle-from concept through commercialization-while collaborating cross-functionally with internal teams and external suppliers.
What You'll Do:
  • Support the design, evaluation, and continuous improvement of structural packaging solutions across all BIC categories, including Stationery, Lighters, and Shavers.
  • Assist with packaging development projects from early concept through production, including material selection, cost considerations, manufacturability, and sustainability opportunities.
  • Create, update, and maintain detailed packaging specifications, including package drawings, die lines, pallet patterns, and packaging documentation.
  • Participate in package testing and validation activities to ensure compliance with performance, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the development, documentation, and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support consistent packaging processes and best practices.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and external packaging partners to support project execution and issue resolution.
  • Communicate effectively with packaging suppliers to request samples, support material sourcing, and assist in obtaining cost estimates.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance packaging efficiency, reduce costs, improve sustainability, and minimize waste.
  • Maintain accurate records and project documentation in internal systems and databases.

What You'll Need:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering (or closely related field).
  • Completion of at least two years of undergraduate coursework, including approximately half of required Packaging Engineering curriculum.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and TOPS preferred.
  • Exposure to SolidWorks or Pro/ENGINEER (Creo) and enterprise systems (e.g., JDE) is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently while seeking guidance as needed.

Work Environment & Location:
  • 6-months fixed intership
  • This is a hybrid role with an expectation to work on-site at BIC's Shelton, CT headquarters a minimum of two (2) days per week.
  • The remaining workdays may be completed remotely, based on business needs, team collaboration, and project requirements.
  • Occasional in-person meetings, packaging trials, or cross-functional workshops may require additional on-site presence.
