Market Equipment is seeking a Light Commercial Refrigeration Service Technician to support bakery and deli customers in and around the Helena, MT area.


Role Summary:

The Light Commercial Refrigeration Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, servicing, and repairing bakery and deli refrigeration equipment in active retail environments. This role focuses on self-contained and small remote systems and requires strong troubleshooting skills, customer communication, and the ability to work independently in the field.


Roles and Responsibilities:

• Troubleshoot, service, and repair light commercial refrigeration equipment, including reach-in coolers/freezers, prep tables, bakery display cases, deli cases, and small walk-in coolers/freezers
• Diagnose refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical system issues and perform repairs efficiently
• Perform preventive maintenance to ensure system reliability and food safety compliance
• Check refrigerant levels, pressures, superheat, and subcooling
• Replace compressors, evaporator and condenser fan motors, contactors, relays, and controls as needed
• Identify and repair refrigerant leaks in compliance with EPA regulations
• Safely recover, evacuate, and charge refrigeration systems
• Communicate clearly with customers regarding repairs, recommendations, and equipment condition
• Complete service documentation accurately using mobile service platforms
• Maintain service vehicle, tools, and parts inventory
• Follow all company safety policies and jobsite procedures


Skills and Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of light commercial refrigeration service experience
• Hands-on experience with bakery, deli, grocery, or foodservice refrigeration equipment
• Strong electrical and refrigeration troubleshooting skills
• EPA Universal Certification required
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to prioritize service calls and manage daily workload
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and occasional overtime

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience servicing bakery display cases and deli prep equipment
• Walk-in cooler/freezer service experience
• Basic hot-side equipment knowledge (ovens, proofers, warmers)
• Experience using digital service platforms and mobile dispatch systems
• Prior grocery or retail refrigeration service experience
