What jobs can I get with a lifeguard certification?

A lifeguard certification qualifies individuals for jobs such as lifeguard at pools, beaches, water parks, and aquatic centers. It also provides a foundation for roles in aquatic instruction, swim coaching, and water safety education, often requiring additional training or certifications. These positions typically involve supervising water activities, enforcing safety rules, and responding to emergencies.

Is 22 too old to be a lifeguard?

Lifeguard training programs typically have age requirements that vary by organization, but many accept applicants up to their early 20s or older. Age is generally not a barrier as long as the candidate can pass the physical and swimming skills tests, and obtain the necessary certifications such as CPR and first aid. Being 22 is usually considered a suitable age to start a lifeguard career or training program.

What is the difference between Lifeguard Training vs Swim Instructor?

AspectLifeguard TrainingSwim Instructor

Both Lifeguard Training and Swim Instructor roles involve water safety and require CPR and First Aid certifications. Lifeguard Training focuses on preventing and responding to emergencies, while Swim Instructors primarily teach swimming skills. Many facilities require both certifications for staff, but the main difference lies in their primary responsibilities: safety supervision versus teaching swimming techniques.

How easy is it to get a lifeguard job?

Securing a lifeguard job is generally straightforward for individuals who have completed certified lifeguard training and obtained CPR and first aid certifications. Job availability depends on location, season, and pool or beach staffing needs, but having certification and good swimming skills can improve chances of employment. Entry-level positions are common, and some employers may require a background check or previous experience.

How much does a 14-year-old lifeguard make?

A 14-year-old lifeguard typically earns minimum wage, which varies by state but is often around $8 to $12 per hour. Many places require lifeguards to be at least 15 or 16 years old, and certification in CPR and first aid is usually required before employment.
