About the Opportunity:
Responsibilities include to-
  • The Instructional Coach's daily responsibilities will be based on the school's goals and priorities throughout the year. Specific areas of focus may include:
    • Leading classroom observations and providing feedback to teachers and leaders
    • Conducting model lessons and co-teaching alongside classroom teachers
    • Providing office hours for leaders and teachers
    • Supporting unit or lesson planning with grade-level teams and/or individual teachers
    • Leading lesson study cycles for teachers
    • Analyzing student work and formative assessment data to support instructional decision-making and responsiveness to learner outcomes
    • Cultivating model classrooms as a means of elevating and replicating best practices for planning and instruction
    • Providing recommendations to educators designed to enhance equity of learning for diverse student populations including Students with Learning & Thinking Differences and English Learners
  • In addition to these specific areas of focus in coaching, the instructional coach will also:
    • Proactively seek out feedback and adapt practice based upon the feedback and what is leading to improved student outcomes
    • Create or customize professional development experiences, as needed
    • Facilitate school-wide professional development sessions, as needed, for leaders and teachers

About You:
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet each of the following qualifications:
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate in good standing with mathematics endorsement.
  • Master's degree in Education, Mathematics, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, or a degree in a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Coaching experience (pull COSA and add here)
  • Demonstrated record of improving student achievement in mathematics.
  • Knowledge of Michigan Mathematics Standards and current instructional best practices. (knowledge of best practice essential instructional math practice)
  • Experience implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and using screening, formative, and diagnostic assessments to drive instruction.
  • Experience analyzing student achievement data and developing instructional action plans.

The following experiences and skills are preferred and will help you succeed and grow in this role:
  • Previous experience as an instructional coach, department chair, mentor teacher, teacher leader, training or certification in instructional coaching.
  • Experience leading sustained coaching engagements and professional development for educators in K-5 or 6-8.
  • Experience facilitating professional development for educators.
  • Knowledge of intervention programs and evidence-based mathematics instructional strategies.
  • Experience with PLC facilitation and collaborative data meetings.
