  • POSITION SUMMARY

Lauren Services is seeking a highly experienced and technically strong Pipeline GIS Lead to lead the execution of pipeline mapping, routing, and design activities while developing and growing our Pipeline GIS and Mapping Group.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a strong technical contributor who can lead, mentor, and develop a team of GIS specialists, mappers, and designers. The Pipeline GIS Lead will serve as the functional lead for the Pipeline GIS and Mapping group, responsible for ensuring high-quality deliverables, technical excellence, standardization, and team performance across multiple projects.

This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who is passionate about developing people, improving processes, and advancing geospatial and pipeline design capabilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future direction of Lauren's Pipeline GIS and Mapping practice, driving technical excellence, operational consistency, innovation, and sustainable growth while remaining actively involved in project execution and client delivery.


  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical Design & GIS Execution
  • Lead the development, management, and quality control of geospatial data used to support pipeline routing, alignment sheet generation, permit applications, environmental assessments, and construction planning.
  • Prepare and review design packages, including:

  • Develop and maintain project-specific GIS databases, web maps, and spatial data repositories using ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE, ESRI Portal, Web AppBuilder, MySQL, Microsoft Access, and related platforms.
  • Coordinate the collection, integration, validation, and management of survey, environmental, land, regulatory, LiDAR, orthophotography, and client asset data.
  • Develop and improve automated workflows for alignment sheet generation, route mapping, permit drawings, crossing drawings, and spatial data processing.
  • Create and maintain project web mapping applications and dashboards.
  • Utilize tools such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE, Web AppBuilder, BlueSky Skyline and Lightning, SheetCutter, Google Earth Pro, Navisworks, ProjectWise, Bluebeam Revu, and other related geospatial, design, and document management platforms to support pipeline routing, mapping, alignment sheet generation, spatial data management, and engineering deliverables. Interpret piping specifications, vendor drawings, survey data, and design instructions, ensuring alignment with client standards, regulatory requirements, and project objectives.
  • Maintain and administer GIS databases and geospatial datasets, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, version control, and compliance with client and project standards to support routing, environmental assessment, and alignment sheet production.
  • Proactively coordinate with survey, environmental, and land consulting firms to obtain, integrate, and validate survey data, including terrain, legal boundaries, wetlands, watercourses, environmental constraints, and other geospatial information required to support pipeline routing and design activities.
  • Apply practical knowledge of pipeline routing, constructability considerations, and temporary workspace requirements to support efficient project execution and field installation.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs meet project scope, schedule, and constructability requirements.
  • Support multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality and responsiveness.

  • Team Leadership, Growth & Mentorship
  • Manage team workloads, resource allocation, recruitment, onboarding, and performance reviews.
  • Lead multidisciplinary design, GIS, and drafting teams while providing technical oversight and mentorship.
  • Act as the functional Lead of the Pipeline GIS and Mapping Group, responsible for team performance, consistency, and capability growth.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and hands-on support to designers/mappers to ensure quality and professional development.
  • Review and approve design deliverables, providing clear and constructive feedback.
  • Support proposal development, scope definition, effort estimating, and client engagement activities related to pipeline GIS and mapping services.
  • Establish and reinforce drafting standards, workflows, templates, and best practices.
  • Support workload planning, task assignments, and resource coordination across projects.
  • Identify skill gaps and lead development initiatives, training, and cross-skilling within the team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and development of new team members as the group grows.

  • Perform QA/QC reviews on drawings, lists, and mapping deliverables to ensure compliance with company and client standards.
  • Ensure all drawing packages are complete, accurate, and ready for issue.
  • Develop and improve design standards, drawing templates, and workflow efficiencies.
  • Drive consistency across projects through standardization of tools, processes, and outputs.
  • Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives across the design function.

  • QUALIFICATIONS

    • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • 10+ years of pipeline mapping, GIS, civil design, alignment sheet production, and pipeline design experience.
  • Degree or Diploma in GIS, Geography, Drafting, Engineering Technology, Civil Technology, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary GIS, mapping, drafting, or design teams, including workload planning, technical oversight, mentoring, recruitment, and performance management..
  • Strong experience delivering piping and/or pipeline design for facility and/or pipeline projects.
  • Experience working across multiple projects in a fast-paced EPC/EPCM environment.
  • CET designation or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • Experience with large-scale pipeline projects and mapping deliverables is an asset.
