ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY
POSITION: Library Assistant
Allard Elementary School
4.5 hours (11:00 am to 3:30 pm)
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB FUNCTION: To assist the students and staff with functions of the library.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High School Diploma
  2. Ability to work with children.
  3. Demonstrate aptitude for the tasks involved, specifically reading / Proficiency on the district administered test
  4. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Products and other office equipment or software
REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Demonstrate the ability to work in a diverse environment and flexibility to handle changing priorities.
  2. Ability to prioritize identified needs of students by following directives of classroom teachers, staff and peers, as well as the goals of the IEP.
  3. Participates in training as required for performance of job.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist Librarian with the following:
  • typing and processing book and budget orders, forms, schedules, library cards
  • typing letters, reports, notices, memorials
  • maintaining and organizing the automated circulation desk: loans, returns, fines, renewals, etc.
  • maintaining card catalog, vertical file materials, organize shelves, etc.
  • preparing computerized overdue notices; circulation reports; year-end obligation list
  • repairing books, pages, covers, etc.
  • processing books for shelving, bar-coding, stamping, catalog cards, etc.
  • maintaining automated inventory
  • inventorying and preparing magazines, pamphlets for shelving, and archival filing
  • sorting mail
  • preparing ACCESS PA loans
  • distribution, minimal maintenance, and inventory of AV materials
  • delivering and organizing daily paperwork
2. Assist students with the following:
  • finding and copying needed materials
  • reinforcing work initially introduced by librarian
  • guide independent study and enrichment work
  • reading, oral communications forms
  • using computers, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Keep current bulletin boards and displays.
  • Be responsible for computer back-up weekly and monthly stats and circulation reports
  • Create a yearly patron database
  • Supervise students on the playground
  • Open and/or close library at end of the day.

3. Performs other duties requested by the Building Principal as normally attributed to this position.
4. Instructional Paraeducators are required to accumulate a minimum of 20 professional development hours each school year.
5. Performs other duties as directed by the Building Principal or Librarian.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 187 days; Hourly wage per contract - Step 1 $18.00/hour 26/27 SY
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provision of the School District's evaluation system of support service personnel.
