Description Summary
Assist librarians with daily operations of the college library by performing routine library duties such as checking material in and out, locating and shelving items, and assisting patrons with routine library usage.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Check out and check in books, media, reserve books and other library materials.
• Process holds, recalls, renewals and other patron requests.
• Sort books for shelving.
• Answer basic informational, directional and library policy questions, help patrons locate materials in the stacks, providebasic copy machine assistance.
• Assist with processing interlibrary loan, and Call Slip requests.
• Answer phone calls and directs calls as needed.
• Handle money and give change for printer cards.
• Record and tally usage statistics and exit gate readings.
• Assist with technical questions including sending faxes, scanning documents, and assisting with copy machines and printers.
• Gather, sort and shelve books and journals.
• Shelf-read the stacks and other collections for proper call number order.
• Straighten the shelves of books, update aisle markers as needed, and replace bookends.
• Shift tight areas. • Search the stacks for books reported missing.
• Assist librarians with displays and other projects.
• Other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Previous library experience or customer service experience. Basic knowledge of decimal placement or library call numbers a major plus.
Applicant must be a current Morton College student carrying 6 credits hours in the Fall and Spring. One credit in the Summer. Good academic standing with a minimum GPA of a 2.0.
Must be able to demonstrate the Morton College core values of compassion, equity, accountability, innovation, and excellence.
