Hiawatha CUSD #426 is looking for a full time paraprofessionals for the 2026-2027 school year.
Qualifications:
  • Valid Paraprofessional Educator License or Professional Educator License
  • Demonstrated desire to help all children.

Job Goal:
  • Under guidance from the teacher, and in compliance with a student's IEP, help to enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of the complete range of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by the district's schools.

Duties:
  • Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tools as the teacher recommends for individual students.
  • Works with individual students or small/large groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing concepts, or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interest and abilities.
  • Constructs classroom materials and/or resources related to academic areas.
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Assists with the supervision of students in all school directed activities as assigned by Administrator.
  • Displays positive communication skills to enhance good classroom relationships with students and teachers.
  • Develops communication skills with students.
  • Assists students in the library or media center, when applicable.
  • Supervises testing and make-up work as assigned by the teacher.
  • Alerts teacher to special information about an individual student, pertaining to the school program.
  • Serves as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the teacher.
  • Assists in implementing Behavior Intervention Plans under the supervision of the teacher.
  • Demonstrates regular and punctual attendance.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and professional demeanor when dealing with school personnel and the public as a school leader.

Terms of Employment:
  • Nine month school year. Twelve months of individual health and dental insurance provided. Starting hourly rate $15.86. Salary and work year to be established by Board based upon recommendations by the Superintendent.
