Job description

Collegiate School seeks a highly organized, detail-oriented and service-minded Library Assistant to join the School's Library team. This part-time, school-year position works approximately 18-20 hours per week and supports the day-to-day organization and operation of the library.
Working collaboratively with the Director of Library and Information Services and the Library team, the Library Assistant helps process and maintain library materials, supports circulation and administrative needs and assists students and faculty with routine library needs.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented and comfortable managing routine tasks accurately and efficiently. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in gaining experience in a school library or educational environment while contributing to a welcoming and supportive school community.
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Director of Library and Information Services, the Library Assistant provides day-to-day support for the organization and operation of the School's library. The position assists with processing and shelving books, maintaining library materials and supporting routine administrative needs of the department.
The Library Assistant works collaboratively with members of the Library team to help ensure materials are organized, accessible and available to students and faculty.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process new and returned library materials according to established procedures
  • Shelve books and other materials accurately and maintain proper shelf order
  • Assist with organizing, labeling and preparing books and materials for circulation
  • Help maintain the organization and appearance of library collections and work areas
  • Assist with inventory, collection maintenance and other library projects as needed
  • Support the circulation of library materials including check-in and check-out procedures as assigned
  • Provide general administrative and clerical support to the Library team
  • Assist students and faculty with routine library needs and direct questions to a librarian when appropriate
  • Support special projects and other department needs as assigned
This position may require flexibility during the school day. Duties and responsibilities may evolve based on program needs at the discretion of the School.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior experience working in a library, school, office or similar environment preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn library systems and procedures
  • Ability to manage routine tasks accurately and efficiently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Ability to lift and move books, boxes and library materials and perform tasks that require standing, bending and reaching
