JOB SUMMARY
The Manassas Park City Library (MPCL) serves as a vibrant community hub dedicated to providing a diverse range of innovative resources, programs, and services. Founded in 2020, MPCL moved to the newly redeveloped Park Central in the heart of Manassas Park in Summer 2022. Conveniently co-located with City Hall, the new Park Central Library location is the community's most exciting destination for learning, discovering, creating, and connecting.

Manassas Park City Library seeks a part-time, 24 hours a week, Library Associate 2 to provide excellence in customer service to the Manassas Park community. The Library Associate 2 performs a variety of moderately complex technical and paraprofessional duties in support of various sections/functions of the library; primarily at the circulation (service) desk and within the collection.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
• Provides customer service by welcoming patrons, issuing library cards, checking in/out materials and managing patron accounts • Assists patrons with locating materials or the reference desk, using computers, or explaining procedures (checking out, logging onto the Internet, making copies, etc.)
• Accepts and processes fees and other payments
• Assists with passive programming, programming preparation, displays, and basic marketing
• Provides information regarding programs, events, study rooms, etc.
• Shelves library materials
• Addresses or escalates patron conduct or safety issues to appropriate management
• Follows all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.
• Assists with collection management including processing new materials, donated materials, damaged items, etc.
• May assist with processing of InterLibrary Loans or other specialized tasks
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS
An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education,
training and/or work experience required.
  • H.S. Diploma or GED required
  • Some library experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of library systems and databases preferred
  • Ability to work a regular schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings and weekends
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • English/Spanish speaking is a plus

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves.
  • Lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
