Job description

Introduction Pamunkey Regional Library is seeking an energetic, innovative, and community-focused librarian to serve as our Adult Programming Librarian for our Atlee Branch. This position is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering a robust portfolio of programs, events, outreach initiatives, and community partnerships that connect adults with library resources, lifelong learning opportunities, and one another. The successful candidate will be passionate about public service, community engagement, and creating meaningful experiences for adults of all ages and backgrounds.

This librarian will work both inside and outside library facilities, building relationships with local organizations, businesses, civic groups, educational institutions, and community partners to expand the Library's reach and impact throughout Hanover and Goochland Counties and the Town of Ashland. This position works closely with community organizations, local partners, and library staff to expand adult engagement and promote lifelong learning opportunities.

In addition to programming responsibilities, the Adult Programming Librarian provides direct public service at service desks, assists patrons with reference and reader's advisory needs, and supports daily branch operations. The position serves as the Person-in-Charge (PIC) in the absence of the Branch Manager or Assistant Branch Manager, ensuring the continued effective operation of the branch and maintaining a high standard of customer service. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong customer service skills, initiative, leadership, and a commitment to fostering meaningful connections between the library and the community it serves.

Preferences Professional experience planning and implementing programs, events, or community engagement initiatives. Experience providing direct customer service in a public-facing environment.

Experience working with adult learners, community organizations, volunteers, or civic groups. Knowledge of public library services, programming, and outreach best practices. Eligibility to obtain Virginia Public Librarian Certification.
