Position Details
General StatementThe Librarian helps provide daily library services supporting students, faculty, and staff of Great Falls College MSU and other library visitors. The Librarian will serve as a member of the Library Services team and report to the Library Director. This position is responsible for reference services, maintenance of research and reference guides, collection development and maintenance, and general library tasks. This position will have hours in the evenings and/or weekends, determined by the needs of the department.
Duties and Responsibilities - Provide friendly, responsive reference service both in person and virtually.
- Guide students in the use of library resources and in developing research strategies; conduct individual research appointments with students or faculty as requested.
- Work collaboratively with library director and faculty to create and maintain online instructional/research guides and create handouts and other instructional aids or online tutorials, ensuring that all materials are inclusive and accessible to all students.
- Helps provide one-shot classroom instruction or workshops as needed.
- Primary staff person processing interlibrary loan requests. Assist with circulation and technical services as needed and serve as back-up support for e-resources troubleshooting.
Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills - Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited program
- Demonstrated knowledge of and dedication to creating an environment that is welcoming to a diverse community
- Knowledge and familiarity with electronic research databases and other reference resources
- Demonstrated knowledge of library reference and research services, including conducting reference interviews and guiding patrons in use of electronic databases and evaluation of sources Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally, interpersonally, and in writing
Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills - At least one year of experience working in an academic library setting providing reference services
- Experience working in a two-year college setting
- Familiarity with online instruction methods related to learning materials and research guides, including familiarity with online platforms like LibGuides and Niche Academy.
- Familiarity with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education.
- Experience providing reference/research service in online environments and working with online students
- Demonstrated knowledge of accessibility and/or universal design in higher education and library settings

Ability to work with or without accommodation in a library environment which includes a virtual presence as well as a physical library with books, computers, other technology, learning support materials, and learning spaces. This position is located indoors. Activities are generally sedentary in nature with walking, standing, sitting, stooping, reaching overhead, kneeling, and occasional lifting required. Need the ability to work at a service desk and office environment with interruptions and noise due to frequent visits from students, employees, and campus guests. Extensive computer use, typing, and repetitive hand movement. Frequent moving of books by lifting, carrying, or using wheeled carts. Ability to push or pull book carts up to 50 lbs. Occasional work with tapes and adhesives for book processing and repair.
