Description
Position Summary:
LGBT Network seeks passionate and motivated candidates for a Part-Time, Temporary Testing Specialist, (Bilingual in English & Spanish) in the Health Promotion Unit, with a focus on the delivery of HIV prevention, testing, and linkage to care services. This position is responsible for two main activities: recruitment for and delivery of HIV services and additional health promotion services. The Testing Specialist works out of the Queens LGBT Community Center (Q-Center) in Astoria, and reports to the Program Manager for Health Promotion. The schedule for this position is 20 hours per week, including weekday and weekend evenings. This is a temporary, part-time position ending on March 31st 2027.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Delivery of HIV Services
• Deliver HIV/STD testing through center drop-in, at off-site community events, and mobile testing (HIV/STD testing experience is not required as training is provided)
• Conduct targeted outreach to people at risk for HIV, people living with HIV, and other special populations in the LGBT Community (with a strong focus on engaging young transgender people of color) through community, street, and digital/online efforts;
• Conduct follow-up and program promotion face-to-face, via virtual, phone, e-mail, and text platforms with the goal of engaging more people in Health Promotion Services
Additional Health Promotion Services & Other Responsibilities
• Connect people to medical services, medical coverage, and other services to address any needs that adversely affect their health
• Deliver supplies for condom distribution to the community
• Assist in the preparation and facilitation of assigned group programs including, but not limited to, regularly scheduled weekly and monthly programs, social events, cultural activities, and one-time special events
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Qualification Requirements:
• Bilingual in English and Spanish required
• HIV/STI testing certifications preferred but not required. Training is provided.
• Flexible work schedule a must, as this position requires working evenings and some weekends for in-person events, services, and outreach activities
• Awareness of, and commitment to, the LGBTQ community overall, and the trans and non-binary communities in particular
• Strong networking skills
• One or more years of relevant work experience in the non-profit field, or lived experience in lieu of non-profit employment preferred;
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
• Passion and motivation to be a part of the LGBT Network movement to help LGBT people to be themselves, stay healthy, and change the world
