The St. Paul Park Refinery has a full-time opening for a Rotating Equipment Mechanic. This position works Monday - Thursday, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. Off hour overtime may be required. The Rotating Equipment Mechanic's main job duties are to perform job tasks that maintain the refinery's critical pumps, compressors, blowers, etc. along with other duties and projects as assigned. Pump mechanic and millwright training will be provided as needed per candidate skill level. The company does not train on inside machinist skills.
Candidates will be required to pass a competency test, which includes a written test and a machinist skills demonstration.
  • Written Test: Assesses candidate knowledge and skills with power tools, rigging, scaffolding, lubrication, mechanical seals, gaskets, metallurgy, tubing and fitting, pipe threading, torches, fasteners, presses, cutting tools, and hand tools.
  • Machinist Skills Demonstration: Consists of manual machining a pump shaft that has an external thread, keyway, and (2) mic dimensions candidate must machine.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a refinery setting.
  • Rotating pump mechanic skills
  • Experience with basic plate welding
  • Machinist Certification is preferred

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • 3+ years' experience in the last 5 years as a manual machinist
  • Experience operating a manual lathe and Bridgeport Milling machine.
  • General computer skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Mechanical and civil aptitude
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and climb more than 75 feet, work in confined spaces, wear SCBAs and use hand tools and precision measuring devices.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is required

Pay:
  • This role has a starting entry rate of $46.72 and the maximum rate for the position is $51.48 with demonstrated qualification/proficiency after being hired. Annual increases are scheduled.
