Job Summary: Under limited supervision from the foreman, the Field Mechanic is responsible for performing complex diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on heavy equipment and DOT-regulated trucks. 

Also required perform maintenance to keep the scales calibrated and certified with the state of Utah.

This journeyman-level role also includes performing field service calls and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Visualize, fulfill, and implement the company vision and core values.
  • Perform duties of a journeyman mechanic.
  • Diagnose, rebuild, and repair vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct electrical diagnostics and repairs on complex systems.
  • Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks.
  • Respond to major road calls and perform field repairs.
  • Operate service truck equipped with tools, parts, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate service records and reports.
  • Operate forklifts and heavy equipment as needed.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and union contracts.
  • Maintain an insurable driving record.
  • Promote and maintain a safe and healthful work environment.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years journeyman mechanic experience; 2-year diesel mechanic certificate preferred.
  • CDL and DOT medical card required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
  • Ability to work long hours and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Skilled in operating and repairing heavy equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Proficient in welding, fabrication, and fueling systems.
  • Familiarity with towing, recovery, lifting, and rigging procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documents.

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting: 20% | Standing: 85% | Driving: 15%
  • Frequent kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying heavy objects.
  • Must be able to hear and communicate effectively in noisy environments.
  • Exposure to hazardous equipment, weather conditions, and varying lighting environments.
  • Working Conditions: 80% of time will be spent working in the pit and field working environment.
