Job description


Job Description
Serves as the primary resource for production of drawings for all engineering department personnel. Orders material, aids in the development of design standards, and provides applicable technical support to field construction and maintenance crews. Leads projects, as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Prepares discipline related / specific design drawings with limited guidance:(25%)
• Electrical and civil design drawings (Substation and Transmission Engineering Only)
• Telecommunication design drawings (Telecom Engineering Only)
• Gas distribution design drawings (Gas Engineering Only)
• Coordinates efforts with other departmental personnel to ensure that design work is in accordance with design standards (20%)
• Coordinates and executes the issuance of design package to construction personnel (10%)
• Analyzes customer requests to determine compliance with national and local codes and standards (10%)
• Develops and maintains professional and technical relationships with external customers and local government agencies (10%)
• Implements and coordinates the development, integration, and maintenance of applicable compatible units and other design standards and processes. (10%)
• Assists and trains lower-level Design Technicians (5%)
• Assists with project close-outs including record drawings and mapping updates (5%) Maintains department facilities Access database (5%)
• Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company
• Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Associate degree from an accredited school in engineering or design related fields and 5 years of experience as an Associate Design Technician.
• Candidates that do not possess an associate degree must have a minimum of 7 years of related work experience in the design field.
• Specialized Knowledge and Skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of:
oDrafting utilizing both manual and computer-aided design tools.
oDesign and construction standards as well as interpreting company and outside agency standards.
• Organizational, interpersonal and communication.
• Equipment and Applications:
oPCs, AutoCAD software, PLS-CADD (Transmission only), word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
oWork Environment and Physical Demands
oGeneral office environment. No special physical demands required.
