Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a 1st Shift Fabrication & Primaries Supervisor to join the Lighting Sector Kenall Team in Kenosha, WI. Having a strong working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and be an advocate and strong supporter of factory involvement (VSM, Legrand Way, ISO etc.) directs the metal fabrication track leaders and fabrication employees to ensure the most effective utilization of available personnel and equipment. Maintain maximum efficiency and highest quality, all to achieve objectives of the fabrication tracks from forming through polishing of metal processing. Understands and uses Legrand Way to drive world class performance for Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost results.

What Will You Do?

  • Manages metal fabrication department ensuring proper carryover of production activities and requirements with an emphasis on product quality, on time delivery, and factory production efficiency for primaries and all fabrication operations.
  • Takes ownership in department improvement and results.
  • Reinforces the daily performance board metrics and give appropriate support.
  • Mentors senior lead and track leads to develop leadership and technical skills.
  • Works with VSM, leads, scheduler, and planners to determine staffing level for hours within budget.
  • Evaluates, monitors, and reacts to headcount allocation including overtime.
  • Cross trains and rotates employees in all fabrication tracks.
  • Identifies and communicates information to correct factory discipline relative to quality, defect prevention, product disposition, rework, and repair activity.
  • Ensures effective communication between team members and shifts through verbal and written means.
  • Executes performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Maintains inspection of parts for quality and accurate quantity.
  • Works towards adherence to quality program.
  • Ability to read blueprints and shop drawings to assure production is per prints and specifications.
  • Trains operators in proper safety procedures and follows through with employees to follow PPE requirements.
  • Coordinates and approves overtime, Paid Time Off, and payroll records of direct reports.
  • Recommends improved methods, equipment, procedures, and systems to increase efficiency and quality.
  • Enforces good housekeeping practices and 5S practices.
  • Participates in Legrand Way activities.
  • Participates in cost reduction projects.
  • Actively participates in ongoing training and development program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Critical Skills/Expertise:

  • A minimum of 10 years of manufacturing, preferably metal fabrication, and people management responsibilities.
  • Bachelors degree (BA/BS) in a related field required or actively working towards a bachelors degree or relevant work experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of area of responsibility.
  • Proven problem solving, troubleshooting, and project management skills.
  • Understanding of cost benefit analysis, proposal development, and project justification.
  • Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing understanding.
  • Above average computer skills and experience Microsoft Suite.
  • MRP experience required, Epicor preferred.
  • High level of observational skills, quality focus, and continuous improvement focus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to discuss training, general direction, and other machine-related tasks; motivational to all employees in department. Bi-lingual a plus.
  • Must possess positive “can-do” attitude and professional demeanor to work with customers, vendors, and employees at all levels.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with company and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide leadership to direct reports; development and satisfaction of direct reports.
