A legal transcriptionist differs from a court reporter in that a court reporter uses stenography equipment to produce written transcripts of courtroom proceedings as they happen, while a legal transcriptionist uses a normal computer keyboard to make written transcriptions from audio recordings of dictation, dialogue, legal consultations, depositions, and many other legal conversations. As a legal transcriptionist, your main responsibilities are to transcribe dictation and dialogue, to organize and backup transcription files, and to retrieve transcriptions for your employer.
