What is a leg model?

Leg models are professional models who primarily showcase their legs for advertising, fashion, and commercial photography. They are often hired for campaigns promoting hosiery, footwear, skincare, and fitness products. Leg models take care of their appearance, especially their legs, and may work for magazines, television commercials, or product packaging. Their work can also include runway modeling for designer collections that feature shorts, skirts, or swimwear.

What are some common challenges faced by leg models during photo shoots?

Leg models often encounter challenges such as maintaining the perfect posture for extended periods, dealing with uncomfortable footwear, and ensuring their skin remains flawless under different lighting conditions. Photo shoots can involve long hours and require the ability to follow precise directions from photographers and creative directors. Additionally, leg models must be prepared for frequent touch-ups and quick changes, while collaborating effectively with stylists and makeup artists to achieve the desired look.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a leg model, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Leg Model, you need well-maintained and aesthetically appealing legs, often meeting specific industry standards for shape, skin tone, and proportion, along with professional modeling experience or a reputable agency representation. Familiarity with posing techniques, photo shoot environments, and sometimes skincare or fitness regimens is important, though formal certifications are not typically required. Confidence, reliability, and the ability to follow direction make someone stand out in this highly visual and detail-oriented field. These skills and qualities are crucial for consistently delivering the desired look for advertising, fashion, or product campaigns and maintaining a strong reputation with clients and agencies.

What is the difference between Leg Model vs Fashion Model?

AspectLeg ModelFashion Model
Primary FocusEmphasizing leg appearance and featuresOverall body and runway presentation
Work EnvironmentPhoto shoots, promotional events, advertisementsRunways, photoshoots, fashion shows
Required CredentialsNone specific, emphasis on physical appearancePortfolios, agency representation, sometimes height/measurements
Industry UsageAdvertising, footwear, hosiery brandsHigh fashion, commercial, editorial

Leg Models primarily focus on showcasing legs for advertisements and promotional campaigns, often emphasizing specific leg features. Fashion Models have a broader role, representing entire outfits on runways and in magazines. While both roles require a strong physical presence, Leg Models typically do not need extensive training or credentials, unlike Fashion Models who often have agency support and specific measurements.

How can I become a leg model?

To become a leg model, you should build a portfolio showcasing your legs, maintain good skin and fitness, and seek opportunities through modeling agencies or online platforms specializing in fashion or commercial modeling. Having clear skin, good lighting, and the ability to pose naturally are important skills for this niche. Often, leg models work on a freelance basis or are represented by agencies that specialize in body part modeling.

How do you become a leg model?

To become a leg model, you typically need to have well-maintained, proportionate legs with clear skin and no scars. Building a portfolio with professional photos, especially focusing on legs, and reaching out to modeling agencies or casting calls that specialize in beauty or commercial work can help you find opportunities. Maintaining good skincare and fitness can also improve your chances in this niche modeling field.

How much do leg models make?

Leg models typically earn between $50 and $200 per hour, depending on experience, location, and the type of assignment. Rates can vary based on the client and whether the work involves runway, photoshoots, or promotional events.

About BAE Systems and the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP)
Our organization has supported the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) continually since the program's inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and is the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation's nuclear arsenal its importance to maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The Navy projects this system to be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total life span of more than 120 years. This is a unique program and BAE Systems employees on this program understand they are part of an important legacy.
In response to global threats, SSP is continuing to defend our nation by adding a second nuclear defense system option to their mission responsibilities with the SLCM-N Program. SSP is building this modular, survivable cruise missile system that will be outfitted on some submarines and surface ships. SSP is responsible for designing, developing, building, and deploying the SLCM-N and BAE Systems is supporting our customer in the pre-development activities for the SLCM-N Program.
As a decades long sole source partner on multiple contracts on behalf of our customer, our program has remarkable stability and is concurrently experiencing significant growth.
