Job DescriptionOverview

Join AtkinsRealis as an Infrastructure Technician and play a key role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and performance of critical transit infrastructure on the Trillium Line in Ottawa, Ontario. Reporting to the Wayside Maintenance Supervisor, you will support the operation and maintenance of advanced signaling, train control, communications, and electrical systems that are essential to delivering safe and efficient public transit services.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-profile transportation project while working with innovative engineering technologies in a dynamic operational environment.

Your Role
  • Perform predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance on signaling, communications, electrical, and infrastructure systems.

  • Diagnose faults and conduct troubleshooting, repair, recovery, and technical analysis activities to maintain system availability, reliability, and safety.

  • Maintain and support critical rail infrastructure systems including signaling and train control, SCADA, CCTV, fibre-optic communications networks, public address systems, radio systems, PLCs, UPS systems, generators, and other electrical assets.

  • Perform maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of electrical equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, motors, LED lighting, and associated support equipment.

  • Follow engineering drawings, technical specifications, and written procedures to execute maintenance activities, inspections, modifications, and corrective actions.

  • Install, test, commission, and support new or upgraded signaling, communications, electrical, and control systems.

  • Carry out inspections of infrastructure assets, identify deficiencies, and ensure defects are documented and addressed.

  • Coordinate maintenance activities and inspections with contractors, suppliers, and client representatives.

  • Recommend and implement initiatives to improve asset performance, reliability, response times, and maintenance efficiency.

  • Maintain accurate work orders, inspection records, maintenance reports, and technical documentation while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, operational, and regulatory requirements.

About You
  • Minimum 2-year technical degree in electronics, communications, or electrical disciplines.

  • Proficiency in electronics, communications, electrical engineering technology, or a related technical discipline, supported by a minimum two-year technical diploma.

  • Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams, single-line diagrams (SLDs), engineering drawings, and technical documentation.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, including the ability to clearly transmit and receive operational communications by radio.

  • Aptitude for troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, maintenance, and repair within a transit, rail, or operational environment.

  • Valid Ontario Class G driver's licence.

  • This position is safety critical. Fitness for duty is a requirement of the position.

  • This position requires shift work (nights, weekends and holidays) for continuous operation based on a 24/7 environment.

  • The successful candidate is required to successfully complete all mandatory Transport Canada and City of Ottawa training programs during the probationary period.
