Job description

Lincoln County School District is accepting on-line applications for a Special Education Teaching Assistant I position at Waldport High.

The primary purpose of this position is to assist special education teaching staff in the classroom and provides special assistance to students with disabilities. Applicants much possess ability to work with students who have behavior challenges in a small group setting.

Essential job duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists students with disabilities, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts as directed by teacher.
  • Presents subject matter to students, utilizing variety of methods and techniques such as lecture, discussion and supervised role playing as directed by the teacher.
  • Assists with transition of students including extracurricular and general classroom activities.
  • Assists with alternative methods of communication.
  • Assists with student discipline as directed by the teacher.
  • Assists with physical management of students including lifting, moving, positioning, feeding, toileting or diapering under direction of the teacher.  May include catheter.
  • Reports unusual behavior to teacher or principal.

Qualified applicants will be asked for an interview and must provide a resume and at least 2 letters of recommendation. Upon selection, employees will be required to complete a fingerprint and background check. 
This is a 7.5 hour per school day position.
Starting Salary: $20.12 - $22.21 per hour (2026-2027 rate)
Must meet NCLB requirement at time of hire.
