Hooker Furnishings, in its 101st year of business, is a designer, marketer and importer of case goods (wooden and metal furniture), leather furniture and fabric-upholstered furniture for the residential, hospitality and contract markets.

Position Summary:
We are seeking an Upholstery Insider to join our team in our Hickory, NC location. As an Upholstery Insider, you will be responsible for assembling and upholstering new leather furniture according to company specifications and quality standards. This position involves measuring, cutting, fitting, stretching, and securing leather materials to furniture frames while ensuring a high-quality finished product.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Upholster new furniture using leather materials, foam, padding, and other related components.
  • Read and follow production orders, specifications, and assembly instructions.
  • Measure, cut, and fit leather accurately to furniture frames and cushions.
  • Stretch, align, and secure leather using staple guns, hand tools, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Install foam, batting, webbing, springs, and other cushioning materials.
  • Inspect leather for defects and ensure proper material utilization.
  • Maintain quality standards by checking finished products for appearance, fit, comfort, and durability.
  • Perform minor repairs or adjustments to ensure products meet company specifications.
  • Operate upholstery equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations.
  • Meet daily production goals while maintaining workmanship standards.
  • Work closely with supervisors and team members to improve productivity and product quality.

Candidates that would be a great fit:
  • Previous upholstery, furniture manufacturing, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience working with leather furniture is a plus.
  • Has knowledge of leather upholstery techniques and furniture construction.
  • Ability to use upholstery tools, staple guns, air tools, and sewing equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
  • Ability to read measurements and follow specifications accurately.
  • Good hand eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a production environment.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods, ability to safely lift and move furniture equipment and materials, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Team-oriented attitude with a strong work ethic.

Shift: Monday to Thursday 7am - 4:30pm & Friday 7a-11a
Pay: Depends on experience
