Job description

Pharmacy Technician

This position works directly with pharmacy patients, medical and nursing staff to manage complex medication needs. This includes customer service, preparing, labeling and delivering medication and supplies and ensuring claims are submitted correctly and paid by third party payers. Build and maintain professional relationships with providers, patients, families, insurers, other units and staff to maximize service delivery. Develop, implement, and maintain processes to ensure the pharmacy site is efficient and effective. Provide administrative support, work with units to achieve overall goals, coordinate workflow, maintain records, ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and anticipate business needs to assist in the growth and success of the business.

  • Data entry of new drug orders, ancillary orders, and supply needs for new onboarding patients. Data entry of all needed drug orders, ancillary orders, and supply requests for any refills on existing patients
  • Verify appropriate orders are in place for requests and refer to the pharmacist if order needs to be obtained
  • Assess the work volume and assign work assignments with the pharmacists for the day based on the daily list generated via reporting system. Identify what team is best needed for the work assignments and collaborate with internal departments, RN's, HIM, Intake, Production to ensure all needed assignments are being handled by appropriate teams. Guide the team on daily work assignment and maintain and evaluate that the work assignments are being completed in a reasonable time
  • Collaborating closely with our Nursing staff to ensure all patients are receiving the appropriate and correct supplies, education and help with any troubleshooting needs outside of the pharmacy personnel.
  • Collaborate with our intake (benefits) team to ensure correct device type is used to ensure reimbursement from payor will be made. Collaborate with our billing team on any billing concern and coordinating with patient to troubleshoot needs to ensure reimbursement from payor.
  • Contact, communicate and set up with our patients any needed deliveries, supply requests or inquiries received for the day
  • Coordinate with our Oncology sites, both Fairview sites and outside contracted sites, needed deliveries, supply requests, or inquires. Ensure all needs are met in a reasonable time.
  • Coordinate, communicate and set up any needs received from both FHI and outside nursing agencies for current, pending, and new onboarding patients.
  • Coordinate with outside nursing agency to ensure patients are receiving appropriate deliveries and supplies needed on appropriate days and times to ensure product is stable and sterile at time of usage.
  • Triage any phone calls coming through our phone tree to the appropriate interdisciplinary team using exceptional customer service to both our internal and external customers.
  • Ensure all lab results needing to be assessed are available to the RPh and help track them down if unable to obtain thru EMRN. Call lab, nursing agency and patient to obtain information needed to verify lab was drawn, which lab was used, and time lab was completed.
  • Follow up with nursing agency to ensure all patients that are done with service have had their VAD removed and document this correctly for RPh to complete order. Ensure order is written and document on patient profile for follow up.
  • Ensure all tasks have been completed on the daily assignments by the end of the day, communicate any outstanding items to the appropriate staff to ensure follow up is done.
  • Troubleshoot any late/missing deliveries by using our internal programs, as well as collaborating with our outside partners to ensure delivery is made or replaced due to stability/sterility, time of need and distance from our location
  • Ensure all triage items are completed by the end of day and appropriate staff has been notified of any needs

Minimum Qualifications to Fulfill Job Responsibilities:

2 to 3 years of pharmacy technician experience in a pharmacy setting

License/Certification/Registration

Must be Nationally certified or certified within 6 months of starting the position

Preferred

Education

Bachelor's degree in business or healthcare or equivalent years of experience.
