Job description

Job Title: Learning & Development Specialist
Reports To: Senior Manager, Learning & Development
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Overview
The Learning & Development Specialist delivers in-person and virtual learning experiences that build Team Member knowledge and skills across the Credit Union. This role facilitates training programs, coordinates learning activities and schedules, contributes to the evaluation and improvement of training content, and partners with stakeholders to help ensure learning remains current, consistent, and effective.
This is a Hybrid/St. Louis position
Responsibilities
The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibilities required of this position and is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills. Team members may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically stated in this description.
  • Facilitates in-person and virtual learning experiences that encourage participation, build understanding, and help Team Members apply what they learn
  • Adjusts facilitation approach in real time based on participant understanding, engagement, group dynamics, and learning needs to keep sessions productive and learning on track
  • Coordinates the Learning & Development training calendar and evaluates scheduling, program flow, and facilitator coverage to support an effective learning experience and business needs
  • Partners with stakeholders and subject matter experts to maintain training content, ensuring information remains accurate, relevant, and aligned with current business processes
  • Collaborates with the instructional designer to improve training materials, learning activities, and facilitation tools based on participant needs, feedback, and program effectiveness
  • Evaluates participant feedback, learning outcomes, and other indicators to identify opportunities to strengthen training content and delivery
  • Provides participants and their leaders with feedback on learning progress, participation, and areas where continued support may be needed following training
  • Connects Team Members and leaders with learning programs, tools, and resources that address identified development needs and support continued growth
  • Monitors training completion and follows up on outstanding requirements to support timely completion and accountability

Minimum Required Qualifications
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ year of experience in financial services, learning and development, facilitation, training delivery, and/or relevant transferable experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree or specialized training in organizational development, human resources, education, adult learning, retail banking, lending or related field
  • 2+ years of experience facilitating learning programs, onboarding team members, or supporting professional development initiatives in a financial services environment
  • Experience working in a credit union, banking, financial services, or other highly regulated environment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
A representation of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, learning styles, and facilitation techniques for in-person and virtual learning
  • Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS), virtual learning platforms, and related learning technologies
  • Skilled in group facilitation and presentation
  • Skilled in active listening, observation, and interpersonal communication
  • Skilled in providing clear, actionable feedback
  • Skilled in organization, planning, and time management
  • Ability to adapt communication and facilitation style to different audiences and learning needs
  • Ability to evaluate information, exercise sound judgment, and respond effectively to changing or unexpected situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written, and electronic communication
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications required to facilitate designated learning programs

Work Environment
Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of this job's functions.
  • Hybrid work environment (combination of remote & onsite); requires regular use of online tools, systems, and collaboration platforms
  • General office setting or training environment when working onsite
  • Work regularly involves facilitating learning sessions, presenting information, and communicating verbally with groups of varying sizes and audiences for extended periods
  • Occasional travel to branch locations, vendor sites, or other business-related locations
  • Attendance at offsite meetings, events, or conferences as needed
