Job description

About the Role:

The Tankerman / Able Seaman plays a critical role in the safe and efficient operation of vessels involved in the transportation and handling of liquid cargoes, particularly petroleum products. This position requires a thorough understanding of cargo transfer procedures, vessel maintenance, and safety protocols to ensure compliance with maritime regulations. The individual will be responsible for overseeing the loading, unloading, and care of cargo tanks, ensuring that all operations are conducted safely and without environmental impact. Additionally, the role involves performing general seamanship duties to support vessel navigation and upkeep. Ultimately, the Tankerman / Able Seaman ensures the integrity of cargo operations while contributing to the overall safety and functionality of the vessel and crew.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Tankerman-PIC endorsement issued by the U.S. Coast Guard.
  • Able Seaman certification as per U.S. Coast Guard requirements.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working on tank vessels or similar maritime operations.
  • Knowledge of maritime safety regulations and environmental protection standards.
  • Physical ability to perform demanding manual labor and work in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with petroleum or chemical cargo handling.
  • STCW Basic Safety Training certification.
  • Familiarity with vessel maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a diverse crew.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and conduct the transfer of liquid cargoes between vessels and shore facilities, ensuring adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections of cargo tanks, hoses, and related equipment to maintain operational readiness and prevent leaks or spills.
  • Assist in navigation and deck operations, including mooring, anchoring, and watchstanding duties as required by the vessel's schedule.
  • Maintain accurate records of cargo operations, including quantity, quality, and transfer documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Participate in safety drills, emergency response activities, and continuous training to uphold vessel and crew safety.
