Reports to: Clubhouse Director
Location: Lihue Clubhouse, Kaua'i
Position Type: Full-Time | Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday-Friday (40 hours/week)
Compensation: $21.00/hour

Position Overview
The Youth Development Director (Teen Program) leads and oversees the daily planning and implementation of a variety of social, recreational, athletic, educational and cultural programs for pre-teen and teen adolescent youth at their clubhouse. Additionally, the Youth Development Director will integrate culturally relevant, leadership and "What's Next" activities including, but not limited to, L.I.T. programs, Youth of the Year (YOY), and post-secondary education and workforce development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Planning and Implementation:
- The Youth Development Director is responsible for the overseeing, planning, coordinating, development, implementation and evaluation of a broad range of programs for teens in the areas of Good Character & Citizenship Leadership Development, Academic Success and Career Development, Healthy Lifestyles to include life skills, mental health, the arts, sports and fitness, etc.
- Helps to oversee LIT and YOY for their clubhouse including events related to YOY and LIT programming. This includes the recruitment and development of members in the YOY program at their clubhouse; supporting them and their needs through the YOY academy and competition.Facilitating the LIT program at the site to ensure grant expectations are being met.
- Encourages and promotes diversity awareness and diversity of staff, volunteers, and members.
- Ensures programs/activities respond to member needs and address gender andcultural diversity (see BGCH values below).
- Works closely with club staff and the rest of the organization to develop and implement programs and activities that meet youth's needs, with special emphasis on career and education development, technology, and leadership development.
- Analyzes and reviews teen center's membership levels and average daily attendance and develops and implements strategies to increase membership and ADA including outreach.
- Plans and takes actions required to obtain community and volunteer support.

- Plans, implements and participates in special activities (i.e. field trips, camps, etc.) and travel as required.
- Establishes and maintains Club program goals and settings that ensure the health and safety of members.
- Consistently follows instructions and observes BGCH policies and procedures.
- Provide on-going feedback and recognition of teens' progress and assist them at meeting designated benchmarks.
- Track and monitor teens' progress and report information appropriately.
- Undertake any other duties that upper management staff might deem necessary to the best interest of the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii.
- Performs all other duties as necessary to ensure the success of programs under his/her jurisdiction.
- Administrative Functions:
- Assumes the role of primary liaison to Teen Center for support staff, responsible for communications and planning, delegating as appropriate.
- Ensures information and other data maintained on programs, membership, etc. are accurate and timely.
- Assists Club Director in helping prepare annual teen program budget and authorizes expenditures up to an approved limit as determined by BGCH.
- Prepares requisitions for supplies, equipment, etc. with the Clubhouse Director or Program Director's approval.
- Prepares and submits required written reports, letters, data tracking, memos, etc., on a timely basis, and in compliance with deadlines, to Clubhouse Director and/or Admin.
- Assists in new member/parent orientation.
- Assists the Program Director/Clubhouse Director with fund-raising activities including but not limited to Youth of the Year, Great Futures Day, Walk in the Country and Clubhouse specific events.
- Attends and sometimes leads scheduled staff meetings.
- Assists with other duties as assigned.
- Supervision, Leadership Teen Development, Recruitment and Training:
- Trains, monitors and develops staff so that programs are well delivered.
- Monitors program delivery, works with program staff to plan and implement improvements. Communicates with club staff, members and partner agencies to ensure understanding of programs opportunities, schedule and plans when outside entities participate in program delivery.
- Helps select teen center p/t staff required to deliver programs, helps evaluates staff' performance and recommends discipline/discharge. Provides staff and volunteer orientation, training, supervision, and oversight required for effective program delivery, reporting and outcomes.
- Collaborates with Clubhouse Director to determine staffing levels and hours that best support effective teen center operations and program delivery.
- Trains and guides teen program staff to ensure an environment that promotes the physical, social and emotional well-being of youth.
- Monitors program areas and provides constructive feedback to staff with regard to program delivery and member guidance and discipline. Plans and implements opportunities to recognize program staff.
- Seeks guidance from Clubhouse Director when handling crisis situations; takes action to resolve conflicts, disputes and/or concerns of staff, club members, or volunteers.
- Provides clear, consistent and effective communication regarding program and member needs, progress and updated to Clubhouse Director Program Director, program staff, volunteers, and youth participants.
- Marketing, Community Relations and Collaborative Partnerships:
- Develops and implements a plan for the recruitment and retention of Teen members.
- Promotes, stimulates interest and increases visibility and participation of Club teen members in various club activities and events.
- Oversees, promotes and stimulates community and parent interest in Club activities by establishing good community relations.
- Consistently connects and communicates with supervisors, staff teams, youth, parents and other stakeholders in a timely manner to ensure strong relationships and rapport are built and maintained for the betterment of the clubs' teens.
- Increases visibility of Club programs via posting of daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and the dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, fliers, social media and media releases.
- Develops an annual plan to collaborate with other youth-serving organizations in the community, including principals of schools, community associations/neighborhood boards, and police department personnel.
- Collaborates with community partners to support teen center initiatives. Represents both the Teen center and BGCH in their community ensuring that the interests of the youth are protected and supported.
- Supports cross-functional initiatives across departments.
- Ensures that the teen program areas are safe, well-ventilated and well-lit and that club equipment is maintained in good working condition.
- Oversees and takes action to ensure teen program areas are safe, attractive, well-maintained and clean.
- Supervises the care and maintenance of the youth program equipment and facility.

Qualifications
- Four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of two years' work experience in a youth-serving organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience.
- Possess a current CPR and First Aid certificate (or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment).
- Ability to work with teens and youth, including "at-risk" youth.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with multi-ethnic cultures and people with different levels of education and socioeconomic status.
- Communicates clearly, consistently and effectively the needs, challenges, and progress of their teen members and programs to their Clubhouse Director and other designated staff.
- Ability to work independently and well with others on a team.
- Ability to organize activities and documents in a professional manner.
- Possesses emotional maturity and patience to work with and develop teens.
- Ability to operate a personal computer, using word processing, spreadsheet, and database management.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of agencies and community organizations.
- Must pass a background check, drug screening, and complete all applicable pre-employment requirements to meet organizational standards.
