Job description

Nuveen, a subsidiary of TIAA, is looking for a Senior Lead Application Developer to join the Middle Office Technology team. The role will design and develop solutions supporting Middle Office Technology functions at Nuveen, partner with IT Leadership and Business Unit Leaders to develop strategic roadmaps, develop effective change initiatives, and successfully deliver plans and deliverables to meet business objectives. The candidate must demonstrate an understanding of investment data management processes and technology and collaborate with team members to foster strong working relationships with business partners. Additionally, the position will coordinate responses to critical issues that affect the business or could cause operational risk to Nuveen. As a Sr. Lead Developer with subject‑matter expertise, this role will oversee the full life cycle of solution delivery, providing oversight and guidance in research, application configuration, implementation, testing, and support.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Liaise closely with Leveraged Finance Business and Application Analysts to generate technical design by leveraging functional requirement documents and design specifications to migrate applications from on-prem to cloud.
  • Maintain and work closely with business/operations team related to portal applications day-to-day activities.
  • Involve in fixing bugs or developing code for any new enhancement for portal applications.
  • Act as a technical SME and business point of escalation for design issues.
  • Document current state technical workflows across the business areas defined in the summary and design end-to-end strategic workflows meeting key business and operational needs.
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of integration and user acceptance build and deploy activities across multiple applications and business and application analysts, ensuring issues are resolved in a pragmatic and timely manner.
  • Assist the Project Manager/Cloud Development Manager to supply accurate technical estimation details to derive the target deployment milestones.

  • 5+ years of buy/sell side experience working at a hedge fund/investment manager leading developers to design & code complex and strategically relevant projects.
  • Experience in Java/J2EE/WebLogic/Middleware technologies/SQL/Unix.
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS – working with EC2, EBS, S3, Lambda, EKS, DMS, Kinesis, SQS/SNS, Athena, QuickSight, IAM on Azure AD, Prism Alerts, VPC, etc.
  • Hands‑on experience with web frameworks such as Angular, C#, Spring Boot, React, and/or Java.
  • Strong database experience (RDS, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Electric Flow, Ansible, Puppet, Jenkins, GitHub, Git, Maven, Docker, Atom.
  • Experience setting up CI/CD pipeline using AWS services (CodeBuild, CodeCommit, CodeDeploy) or third‑party tools such as ElectricFlow or Jenkins.
  • Two years of demonstrated programming ability in designing and developing automation scripts using Python.
  • Ability to document current and target state technical workflows using tools such as Microsoft Visio and PowerPoint.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in operations and production support.
  • Exposure to Sterling Integrator, Autosys, DataStage.
  • Experience in Eagle STAR, Eagle PACE accounting system.
  • Ability to follow hybrid project management methodologies using Waterfall and SCRUM across projects and programs.
  • Strong compute, storage, network, Linux, Azure AD, NAS exposure.
  • AWS security knowledge: compliance, cloud security architecture, third‑party security platforms, encryption/KMS/CloudHSM, Prism Alerts, IAM policies/roles.
  • Cloud native application architecture: AWS PaaS/SaaS services, server‑less architecture, Lambda, API Gateway, lightweight architectures including JavaScript frameworks (AngularJS/React) and single‑page web applications.
