Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
BWI Group is a premier chassis supplier that designs and manufactures brake and suspension systems for the global transportation market. BWI Group is seeking a Systems Engineer is responsible for the endโ€‘toโ€‘end definition, design, integration, and verification of complex systems, ensuring that functional, performance, safety, and reliability requirements are met. The Engineer works across disciplines (hardware, software, test, manufacturing, and customers) to translate needs into requirements, develop system architectures, manage interfaces, and support validation and launch.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Elicit, analyze, and document stakeholder and customer needs, and translate them into clear system and subsystem requirements.
  2. Develop and maintain system architectures, block diagrams, and interface definitions that allocate requirements to hardware, software, and other system elements.
  3. Manage requirements traceability throughout the lifecycle, ensuring each requirement is implemented, verified, and validated.
  4. Coordinate and lead technical discussions between hardware, software, test, and manufacturing teams to resolve systemโ€‘level issues and make design tradeoffs.
  5. Define and manage system interfaces (electrical, mechanical, network, software) and ensure compatibility across all subsystems.
  6. Support development of systemโ€‘level Design Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (DFMEA) and risk assessments; track and drive closure of key technical risks.
  7. Contribute to the creation and execution of Verification and Validation (V amp;V) plans, including test strategies, test cases, and acceptance criteria at system and subsystem levels.
  8. Analyze test results and field data to confirm system performance, identify root causes of issues, and support corrective actions and design improvements.
  9. Support change management by assessing systemโ€‘level impact of proposed design changes and updating requirements, architectures, and documentation as needed.
  10. Prepare and present technical reviews, status updates, and decision papers to internal stakeholders and, when required, to customers.
  11. Contribute to process improvement initiatives related to systems engineering methods, tools, and best practices.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelorโ€™s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  2. Experience in systems engineering, product development, or a closely related role working with multiโ€‘disciplinary teams.
  3. Ability to decompose highโ€‘level customer needs into system and subsystem requirements and maintain traceability.
  4. Familiarity with system architecture development, interface control, and documentation practices.
  5. Strong analytical and problemโ€‘solving skills, with the ability to understand interactions between hardware, software, and processes.
  6. Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present technical topics to nonโ€‘specialists.
  7. Proficiency with standard office tools and comfort learning specialized engineering or requirements tools.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Experience with requirements management tools (for example DOORS, Jama, Polarion, or similar).
  2. Background in a relevant domain (e.g., automotive, aerospace, industrial equipment, medical devices, or telecom).
  3. Knowledge of systems engineering standards or frameworks (for example INCOSE practices, ISO/IEC 15288, or similar).
  4. Experience with modelโ€‘based systems engineering (MBSE) methods and tools (e.g., SysML).
  5. Exposure to structured development and quality processes such as DFMEA, DVP amp;R, and configuration/change management.
  6. Demonstrated ability to lead crossโ€‘functional technical activities and influence decisions without direct authority.
TRAVEL REQUIRED (%):
Travel gt;25%, including visits to customers and suppliers as well as day trips to various manufacturing facilities as required and for training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Ability to use and understand Windows Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SharePoint, Microsoft (email). This is additional to the computer skill requirements as stated in the requirement qualifications.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Able to read and understand engineering prints/drawings. Good level of analytical skills and interpersonal skills. Ability to work on a team. Ability to guide the efforts of support personnel. Good teambuilding skills.
