Job description

Job Summary:
Responsible for assisting the supervisor in overseeing the production workforce to maximize production yields, provide direction to production workforce on operations, quality initiatives, food safety and equipment. Monitor colleagues in the course of their work and provide leadership/direction for the team. This position will provide expertise in material handling equipment and may take the lead in assisting team members with practical ways to execute complicated operations. This position may provide direction for up to 8 associates This is a working lead position.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the supervisor with monitoring the material handling metrics and make improvements or adjustments as necessary
  • Create production line schedules and direct the workflow of an assigned line(s) and activities of production colleagues.
  • Monitor colleagues during material handling activities to ensure adherence to safety and food safety handling procedures.
  • Responsible for training for new material handling colleagues and ensure colleagues have a clear understanding of powered industrial vehicles functions and are operating equipment correctly and according to safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and technological changes that may affect the food industry, including Federal Drug Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and British Retail Consortium (BRC). Investigate and document any compliance issues. Provide results and recommendations to management.
  • Work with supervisor to ensure compliance to company rules, policies and procedures. Promote a safe and fair working environment for colleagues and visitors.
  • Participate and facilitate team meetings,
  • Provide input to supervisor regarding colleague performance, development and team morale. Collaborate with Human Resources related to colleague development, performance management and policy compliance or other human resource related issues. Responsible for completion of performance appraisals for assigned colleagues.
  • Support quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing, operational, packaging or distribution environment or related industry
  • Working knowledge of General Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), HACCP, Federal Drug Administration (FDA), USDA United States Department of Agriculture and OSHA requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively mentor and train others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.
  • Ability to utilize Inkling, Oracle and other software platforms as required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate to a wide variety of colleagues and temporary workers.
  • Evidence of mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to organize and follow through on jobs and assigned projects Evidence of ability to multi-task and set priorities within department.
  • Must be certified to backfill required position supported by Inkling completion
  • Must complete all identified leadership training modules within 1 year of accepting position
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Evidence of strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience supervising or providing work direction and coaching for development to teams, monitoring performance and ensuring compliance to regulations and policies.
  • Previous experience operating powered industrial vehicles.
Working Conditions:
  • Position may require continuous standing, lifting, bending and moving of heavy weight (up to 50 pounds)
  • Exposure to bakery and manufacturing conditions such as temperature and noise, unlike those conditions found in an office environment.
  • This position may work weekends and non-traditional hours as needed, including holidays.
  • Position may require periodic work outside of the bakery.
