Job description

Leidos is seeking a Lead Distribution Engineer in the Framingham, MA area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. We're looking for someone who is dedicated to ensuring that every project, no matter how simple or complex, is of exceptional quality. You'll be working directly with clients to make sure that Leidos' reputation for high-quality work is always maintained. If you join us in this role, you'll gain expertise in a variety of areas, including NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards. Your greatest work is ahead!
This position is hybrid in nature, where 3 days/week are spent working in our office, collaborating with internal teams, and 2 days/week can be spent working remotely.
As a Lead Distribution Engineer, you can expect to:
  • Lead the development of electrical distribution work packages; Perform engineering design and analysis; potentially work on programmatic/ capital/ reliability design (i.e. 3rd party attachment/ Make Ready, overloaded transformers, reconductor, voltage conversion, DG, FLISR, underground, etc. designs)
  • Be responsible for QAQC tasks on your assigned team; You will play a role in quality reviews of your team's designs prior to submittals for client projects
  • Review engineering design packages with clients; Review and organize existing program work
  • Perform scope analysis of work assigned and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities
  • Interact directly with clients on a frequent, as-needed basis
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; Assist with work permit development, easements, and ROW applications
  • Be comfortable in both a field and office setting; the role could possibly require some customer-site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages
  • In the future, you can expect to play a role in the hiring process for the future of your team

What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements):
  • 8+ years of relevant experience working electric distribution projects in a consulting environment for electric utilities or working directly at an electric utility
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; Additional relevant experience can be considered in lieu of engineering-specific bachelor's degree
  • Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
  • Experience with engineering design quality control
  • Familiarity with Pole Loading software (O-Calc, Pole Foreman, etc) and distribution pole analysis
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel could be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work; Ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion; The role may require customer-site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages
  • Candidates should possess valid U.S. driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous QAQC experience
  • Experience providing estimated costs, development of a BOM, calculating the CIAC
  • Demonstrated history of Customer Interaction
  • Proven experience and proficiency with STORMS software and GIS is preferred
  • Prior Leadership experience is preferred
