Job description

Position Overview

The Server & Network Lead directs the design and operation of cloud‑hosted compute and network infrastructure that supports mission‑critical enterprise workloads. This role architects and manages environments on leading cloud platforms, implementing scalable virtual networks, compute resources, and security controls to meet performance and availability expectations. The Server & Network Lead also oversees automation of provisioning, configuration management, and deployment pipelines, ensuring infrastructure is consistently delivered through infrastructure‑as‑code in a highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement cloud infrastructure architectures, including virtual networks, subnets, routing, and security boundaries that support highly available enterprise applications.

  • Configure and manage compute, storage, and networking services on major cloud platforms, ensuring environments are secure, resilient, and aligned with architectural standards.

  • Develop and maintain infrastructure‑as‑code templates and automation scripts to standardize provisioning, configuration, and deployments across environments.

  • Monitor and optimize cloud environments for cost, performance, and reliability, leading incident response and root‑cause analysis for infrastructure and connectivity issues.

  • Collaborate with application, security, and operations teams to integrate network and server designs with application requirements, identity solutions, and security controls.

  • Define and maintain standards, runbooks, and documentation for cloud infrastructure, including configuration baselines, deployment patterns, and change‑management processes.

  • Evaluate new cloud services, networking capabilities, and automation tools, providing recommendations and implementation plans that improve scalability and operational efficiency.

  • Provide technical guidance and informal leadership to engineers supporting cloud compute and network services, promoting best practices and knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

  • 8+ years of experience in systems, network, or cloud engineering roles with significant hands‑on work designing and operating environments in public cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or similar).

  • Strong expertise with cloud infrastructure components, including virtual networking, compute, storage, security groups, and load balancing in enterprise environments.

  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining infrastructure‑as‑code and automation using tools such as Terraform or equivalent and scripting in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.

  • Proven ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and tune cloud infrastructure for performance, reliability, and cost optimization, including participation in on‑call or incident response rotations.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust investigation and U.S. citizenship as required for this remote federal IT position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional‑level cloud certification such as AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or an equivalent vendor credential.

  • Experience designing or operating containerized workloads and orchestration platforms (for example, Docker or Kubernetes) in cloud environments.

  • Background supporting federal or other highly regulated clients, including familiarity with compliance, security baselines, and documentation expectations.

  • Experience providing technical leadership or mentoring for cloud, systems, or network engineering teams.
