Compliance Solutions Specialist (Contract)

Location: Herndon, VA


About the Role

Satair is seeking a Compliance Solutions Specialist (Contract) to join our team in Herndon, Virginia.

This is not a traditional administrative compliance role. We're looking for a naturally curious problem solver who can bridge the gap between regulatory requirements and operational data. You'll leverage tools like Skywise, Power BI, and AI to ensure compliance with 19 CFR and global trade standards while helping automate audits, visualize risks, and improve our aviation aftermarket supply chain.


This position requires strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, including:

  • HTSUS & ECCN Classification
  • Free Trade Agreements
  • Country of Origin Requirements
  • Export Administration Regulations (EAR)
  • International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
  • Applicable U.S. Customs Regulations (19 CFR)

You'll report directly to the Head of Finance Americas.



Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • 4+ years of experience in U.S. import compliance and/or import operations, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • U.S. Customs Regulations (19 CFR)
    • HTSUS
    • Partner Government Agency requirements
  • Experience using Microsoft Power BI to build data models, automate audits, and visualize supply chain risks
  • Ability to interpret aircraft engineering data (drawings and maintenance manuals) for accurate trade classification
  • Strong investigative mindset with the ability to identify data anomalies and resolve regulatory discrepancies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Finance, or Accounting
  • 2+ years of tariff classification experience
  • Experience with Skywise, SAP GTS, or similar global trade software
  • Knowledge of C-TPAT, ISA, or other voluntary trade compliance programs

Preferred Certifications

  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS)
  • Master Customs Specialist (MCS)
  • U.S. Customs Broker License

What You'll Do

Trade Compliance Operations (30%)

  • Oversee HTS and ECCN classification for aviation aftermarket parts.
  • Manage classification using a systematic, logic-based approach.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on U.S. Customs regulations (19 CFR) and corporate policies.
  • Ensure import/export activities comply with legal requirements.
  • Act as the primary liaison with customs brokers and subcontractors to ensure timely customs clearance.

Data Analytics & Business Intelligence (30%)

  • Use SQL and Skywise (Palantir) to analyze supply chain data.
  • Identify compliance gaps, cost-saving opportunities, and duty drawbacks.
  • Build and maintain Power BI dashboards for leadership.
  • Track KPIs, entry timeliness, and data accuracy.
  • Leverage AI/ML tools to align regulatory requirements with operational data.

Process Automation & Optimization (30%)

  • Develop VBA macros and scripts to automate manual processes.
  • Perform data-driven audits to identify anomalies and prevent compliance issues.
  • Partner with logistics and engineering teams to maintain data integrity across systems.

Strategic Support & Projects (10%)

  • Support the Customs Manager with strategic initiatives and continuous improvement projects.

Additional Responsibilities: 5%
