What is an LBT?

An LBT (Licensed Boiler Technician) is a professional responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing boilers and heating systems. They ensure that boilers function safely and efficiently while complying with regulations and safety standards. LBTs typically work in industrial, commercial, or residential settings where large boilers are used. Their duties may include conducting routine inspections, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and performing necessary repairs to prevent breakdowns. Proper training and certification are usually required to become an LBT.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an LBT?

To excel as a Licensed Behavior Technician (LBT), a foundational understanding of applied behavior analysis principles and a high school diploma or associate degree are generally required, along with certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) in many settings. Familiarity with data collection software, behavior intervention plans, and session tracking tools is often necessary. Strong communication, patience, and adaptability are essential soft skills for working effectively with clients and supervising therapists. These competencies ensure that LBTs can implement behavioral interventions successfully, document progress accurately, and contribute positively to client outcomes.

What are typical daily tasks for a Licensed Behavior Technician (LBT)?

As an LBT, your daily responsibilities usually include working directly with clients to implement individualized behavior intervention plans designed by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). This involves using specific strategies to teach new skills, reduce challenging behaviors, and collecting detailed data on client progress. You may also collaborate with families, teachers, or other therapists to support consistency across environments. LBTs typically have set session schedules but may need to adapt to changes based on client needs or supervisor guidance. This hands-on role is both rewarding and demanding, offering valuable experience in the behavioral health field.
