Project Manager - LAUSD Projects (Los Angeles)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead K12 school construction, modernization, and repair projects for the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) throughout Los Angeles. The Project Manager will be responsible for delivering safe, code-compliant facilities on time and on budget while minimizing disruption to school operations. This role requires strong construction management skills, familiarity with LAUSD processes and school environments, and the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders including district staff, architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all phases of LAUSD projects from pre-construction through closeout, including planning, scheduling, cost control, permitting, construction administration, and commissioning.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and cash flow forecasts; monitor progress and implement corrective actions to meet milestones and financial targets.
  • Coordinate procurement and management of contractors, consultants, and subcontractors; oversee bid processes, contract administration, and change order control.
  • Ensure compliance with LAUSD standards, Division of the State Architect (DSA) requirements, California Building Code, Title 24 energy requirements, ADA, and other applicable regulations and permits.
  • Serve as primary point of contact with LAUSD site administrators, teachers, parents, and community stakeholders to communicate schedules, safety plans, and project impacts; minimize disruption to school operations and student safety.
  • Implement and enforce site safety programs and ensure contractor compliance with OSHA and LAUSD safety policies; conduct regular safety inspections.
  • Manage quality assurance and quality control processes including submittals, RFIs, field inspections, testing, and punchlist resolution to achieve project standards.
  • Prepare and submit timely project documentation, reports, meeting minutes, and progress updates to LAUSD and internal leadership; maintain accurate project records and as-built documentation.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks; develop contingency plans and proactively resolve issues that threaten schedule, budget, or quality.
  • Lead closeout activities including final inspections, commissioning, turnover documentation, training for facility staff, and warranty coordination.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience delivering public K12 school projects or similar public-sector construction; direct experience with LAUSD projects strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DSA processes, California Building Code (CBC), Title 24, ADA requirements, and public-school construction constraints and scheduling.
  • Proven proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera, Microsoft Project) and strong Excel skills for budgeting and reporting.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills; experience coordinating with district leadership, school staff, community groups, and regulatory agencies.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing project budgets, change orders, and contract administration.
  • PMP, CCM, or equivalent project management certification preferred; OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
  • Ability to pass LAUSD background checks and fingerprinting; valid California drivers license and willingness to travel to multiple LAUSD sites across Los Angeles as required.
