Position Title: Latin Teacher - 7th-8th grades
Location: Great Hearts Prairie View Upper School
Reports To: Headmaster
FLSA Status: Salaried-Exempt
Position Summary: We are looking for life-long learners passionate about shaping students' hearts and minds. Join Great Hearts Academies, a growing network of 49 public, open-enrollment, tuition-free classical schools in Phoenix (AZ), Baton Rouge (LA), Dallas/Ft. Worth (TX), and San Antonio (TX).
Great Hearts currently provides over 30,000 K-12 students with access to a high quality, classical liberal arts education. We believe the highest goal of education is to become good, intellectually and morally.
Classical Languages at Great Hearts:
Latin is not an elective at Great Hearts, but part of the core curriculum. All Great Hearts students study Latin from 6th through 8th grade, and several continue in the classics track in high school, with advanced Latin and Ancient Greek (others study a modern language for four years of high school).Many academies offer Latin at K-5 as well.
Latin provides an essential foundation for our academies' focus onthe Westerntradition through its incorporation of history and culture.
Rigorous and detailed Latin lessons will develop students that can translate texts from the original Latin to English through Socratic discussion

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Teach assigned classes using the Great Hearts curriculum and materials, preparing thoughtful lessons and cultivating an orderly, joyful classroom that supports the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.
- Provide appropriate academic support to students, monitor progress, and partner with school leadership to address academic or behavioral needs in a timely manner.
- Uphold and model the culture, policies, and expectations of Great Hearts, including dress code, conduct, and safety procedures, contributing to a respectful and orderly school environment.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with families, initiating conferences as needed and fostering strong home-school partnerships.
- Participate fully in the life of the academy through faculty collaboration, school events, assigned duties, and a shared commitment to ongoing professional growth and excellence in teaching.
Required/Preferred Education:
- Bachelor's or higher degree is required for a lead teaching role
- Certification is not required for general education
- All majors are welcome
