Job description

Veterinary assistant needed for client oriented, high performance, mixed animal clinic. Majority of duties would be with small animals; possible assistance with some large animal appointments. Duties include assistant the veterinarian and veterinary technician in wellness and sick appointment. Comfort in patient handling, and sample handling required. Good communication skills are necessary. Applicants must also enjoy working within the culture of a team and use efficient time management methodologies. Professional attitude and attire are required. Applicant should be available to work Monday through Saturday.

Duties included but not limited to:

  • Review vaccination records and prepare vaccines according to our vaccine protocol
  • Assist veterinarian in medical procedures using proper restraint; know how to restrain fractious patients
  • Maintain and use medical equipment such as blood machine, laser machine and autoclave
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures and analyses of urinalysis
  • Prepare samples for outside laboratory analysis
  • Administer oral treatments and following the instructions of a doctor or a treatment form
  • Initiate emergency procedures
  • Maintain pharmacy records, and controlled drug, fecal and heartworm test logs
  • Take and develop radiographs
  • Take vital signs of animals including weight, temperature, pulse, and respiration
  • Complete ear cleaning and nail trims
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs unassisted using proper technique
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, climb, crouch and grasp

Education

  • Minimum of High School Diploma
  • Experience with animals and customer service
