Job description

Description:

Sunnybrook Software is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us build out SunnybrookTMS — the platform freight brokers and 3PLs rely on to quote, book, track, and get paid on shipments. You will work across a modern Laravel/Vue stack, build integrations that keep data moving accurately between us and the carriers, partners, and back-office systems our customers depend on, and help the team get more out of agentic, AI-assisted tools.

We are looking for a backend-leaning full-stack engineer who is driven, reliable, and enjoys building things that matter. You will play a key role in developing and improving our SaaS platform using Laravel (PHP) for backend systems and Vue.js for frontend features when needed. We are a small, collaborative team that moves quickly. We value people who take ownership of their work, stay focused, and communicate clearly — but also know how to keep things light and enjoy working together.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Design, build, and maintain full-stack features across SunnybrookTMS using Laravel/PHP on the backend and Vue 3 + TypeScript on the front end.

• Build and maintain integrations with carriers, LTL rating providers, and third-party systems (e.g., QuickBooks Online/Desktop, NetSuite, Sage, TriumphPay), including EDI-style tender, status, and invoicing data exchange.

• Work within our multi-tenant architecture (central vs. per-tenant data) and our modular domain structure (LTL, load tracking/security, payments, and more).

• Support and extend workloads that integrate with Azure services (Blob Storage, Microsoft Graph) alongside the rest of our stack.

• Write and maintain automated tests (PHPUnit, Vitest) and keep CI, linting, and formatting green; QA automation is part of how we ship, not an afterthought.

• Use agentic, AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code to move faster, prototype ideas, and help the team adopt better AI-assisted workflows.

• Partner with product and operations stakeholders to translate freight and logistics requirements into shipped, reliable features.

• Participate in code review and architecture decisions, and help raise the bar for the engineers around you.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• 6+ years of professional experience as a full-stack web developer.

• Strong experience with PHP; Laravel experience preferred. Strong experience with another modern PHP or MVC framework, with willingness to ramp up in Laravel, will also be considered.

• Experience building and maintaining a modern JavaScript/TypeScript front end (Vue, React, or similar).

• Experience integrating with third-party systems and APIs, including EDI, carrier, ERP, or other B2B integrations.

• Experience writing automated tests and building QA automation as a regular part of your workflow.

• Experience working with a cloud platform such as Azure; AWS/GCP experience considered with willingness to work in Azure.

• Strong communication skills, ownership of your work, and a collaborative style that fits a small, fast-moving team.

• Ability to work on-site in the Kansas City area at least 3 days per week.

• Experience in logistics, freight, or supply chain systems; LTL (less-than-truckload) experience is a strong plus.

• Experience working in fast-paced startups or similar high-growth environments.

• Professional experience building production-scale applications.

• Experience with TypeScript.

• Basic understanding of queues, jobs, or background processing in Laravel.
